A Fairytale Land of Alpine Lakes, Emerald Rivers, and Baroque Old Towns.
Join us on our 8-day Slovenia Photo Tour and Cultural Adventure, a photographic journey through one of Europe’s most compact and diverse landscapes.
This tour weaves together the storybook capital of Ljubljana, the dramatic heights of the Julian Alps, the emerald waters of the Soča Valley, the untouched beauty of Lake Bohinj, the postcard perfection of Lake Bled, and the sun-washed Venetian architecture of the Adriatic coast at Piran.
Our adventure begins in Ljubljana, a small, walkable capital of dragon bridges, riverside cafés, and a hilltop castle overlooking terracotta rooftops. From there we climb into the high country first, crossing the Vršič Pass, Slovenia’s highest mountain road, where the season’s earliest color often turns the larches gold. Descending into the Soča Valley, we’ll spend a full day among a river that runs an impossible shade of turquoise-green through limestone gorges. Working our way back down through Triglav National Park, we’ll visit Lake Bohinj, Bled’s quieter and wilder sibling, before arriving at Lake Bled itself, where an island church and cliffside castle have made it one of the most photographed lakes on earth. Finally, we trade mountains for the Adriatic, arriving in Piran, a Venetian gem of narrow lanes and salt pans on Slovenia’s small stretch of coastline, before returning to Ljubljana.
This immersive 8-day photography tour is more than a quest to capture exceptional images; it’s an invitation to elevate your craft in one of the most photogenic and varied countries in Europe. Our expert photographer guide will lead you to the best light at each location, help you refine composition and long-exposure technique, and share the local knowledge needed to find the compositions most visitors never see.
Join us for spirited discussions, enriching camaraderie, and moments of unforgettable inspiration. Slovenia, with its alpine passes, emerald rivers, and storybook towns, provides the ultimate backdrop to fuel your photographic exploration. Your visual odyssey begins here!

ITINERARY
SLOVENIA PHOTO TOUR – 8 DAYS
Day 1 | Day 1 | Ljubljana
We’ll meet at our hotel in Ljubljana where we will discuss PWA’s “10 Guiding Principles to Great Photography” as well as our “The Art of Seeing” photographic technique. During a group lunch, we will have informal discussions on what our guests are trying to achieve in their photography, subject matters, styles, and techniques. We will spend the afternoon photographing the riverside cafés and pastel façades along the Ljubljanica. As evening falls, we’ll walk up to Ljubljana Castle for panoramic views over the old town before celebrating the group’s arrival with a “Welcome Dinner” at one of our favorite Slovenian restaurants. (D)
Day 2 | Ljubljana
After breakfast, we will explore the Baroque heart of the old town, including the Triple Bridge, the Dragon Bridge, and Prešeren Square, anchored by the pink façade of the Franciscan Church of the Annunciation. We’ll continue to the Ljubljana Central Market along the riverbank, a lively scene of vendors and locals ideal for street photography. In the afternoon, we’ll photograph St. Nicholas Cathedral’s ornate bronze doors and interior, then return to the riverfront for blue hour, when the bridges and café lights reflect in the Ljubljanica. (B)
Day 3 | Ljubljana - Vršič Pass - Soča Valley
We’ll check out early and drive north to Kranjska Gora before climbing the Vršič Pass, Slovenia’s highest mountain road, with sweeping views over the Julian Alps from its 50 hairpin switchbacks — the trip’s highest elevation, and where we’re most likely to catch the season’s earliest color in the larches. Descending the far side into the Soča Valley, we’ll get our first views of the Soča River and check into our hotel in time for sunset light on the water. (B)
Day 4 | Soča Valley
Day 5 | Soča Valley - Lake Bohinj - Lake Bled
We’ll depart the Soča Valley and descend toward Triglav National Park’s lake country, stopping at Lake Bohinj, Slovenia’s largest natural lake and far less visited than its famous neighbor. We’ll photograph Savica Waterfall after a short forest hike, then frame the tiny Church of St. John the Baptist against the mountains along Bohinj’s shoreline. Continuing to Lake Bled, we’ll photograph the island church and cliffside castle from the classic shoreline viewpoints as the light turns golden for sunset. (B)
Day 6 | Lake Bled - Vintgar Gorge
Before sunrise, we’ll walk to the lakeshore to capture the still water and mist rising off Bled in the day’s first light. After breakfast, we’ll visit Vintgar Gorge, where the Radovna River carves through limestone walls beneath wooden walkways — an ideal location for long-exposure water photography. In the afternoon, we’ll hike up to the castle for elevated views of the lake and surrounding peaks, returning for a second sunset session from a different vantage point. (B)
Day 7 | Lake Bled - Karst Region - Piran
We’ll check out and drive south through Slovenia’s Karst region, stopping at the dramatic Predjama Castle, built into a cliff face above a cave mouth. Continuing to the coast, we’ll arrive in Piran, a Venetian-era town of narrow stone lanes on the Adriatic. In the late afternoon, we’ll visit the nearby Sečovlje Salt Pans, one of the oldest saltworks on the Adriatic, beautiful in the warm coastal light. We’ll close the day with a “Farewell Dinner” overlooking the harbor. (B) (D)
Day 8 | Piran - Ljubljana - Departure
In the early morning, we’ll climb to the town walls above Piran for sunrise over the rooftops and the Adriatic beyond. After breakfast, we’ll drive back to Ljubljana, arriving in time for departure flights. We urge you to extend your stay in Ljubljana or elsewhere in Slovenia and make good use of everything you’ll learn on our photo adventure. (B)
(B) Breakfast, (L) Lunch, (D) Dinner, (E) Excursion
