Experience Andalusia’s passion through its castles, courtyards, and sunlit shores.

Our 7-Day Andalusia Photo Tour & Cultural Adventure is a dream come true for any travel photographer looking for nature, architecture, landscapes, cityscapes, people, and more. This large autonomous region of hills, rivers, and farmland bordering Spain’s southern coast, is breathtaking in so many ways. It was under Moorish rule from the 8th-15th centuries, a legacy that shows in its stunning architecture, including such landmarks as the Alcázar castle in Seville, the capital city, as well as Córdoba’s Mezquita Mosque-Cathedral and Granada’s Alhambra palace.

The Costa del Sol stretches along the Mediterranean from the glamorous harbor of Puerto Banús to the historic port city of Málaga, forming a near-continuous ribbon of sunlit coastline. Inland, whitewashed mountain villages like Las Alpujarras dot the Sierra Nevada, while Jerez de la Frontera is world-famous for its sherry production. That rich fortified wine pairs perfectly with Andalusia’s seafood-based cuisine; after all, this is the birthplace of gazpacho.

Our journey begins and ends in Seville, exploring the heart and spirit of southern Spain. Over seven days, we’ll visit Jerez, Medina-Sidonia, Parque Natural Los Alcornocales, Marbella, Granada, and Córdoba; each destination offering a unique blend of history, architecture, and culture.

This Andalusia Photo Tour & Cultural Adventure is thoughtfully crafted to guide you through the region’s most photogenic locations, timed carefully for the best light. More than that, it aims to help you visualize a scene before capturing it; sharpening your creative eye and deepening your understanding of photographic expression. You’ll not only return home with beautiful images, but also with newfound insight and techniques to elevate your photography.

Throughout the workshop, you’ll learn how to read and approach a landscape, connect with local people, and navigate the cultural nuances of photographing abroad. Our days together will include individual instruction, group discussions, inspiring ideas, and plenty of laughter. Andalusia, with its light, color, and vibrant atmosphere, is truly the perfect place to express your creativity behind the lens.

ITINERARY

ANDALUSIA PHOTO TOUR7 DAYS

Day 1 | Seville - Plaza de España

We’ll begin our journey through Andalusia in Seville, Spain. After meeting in the lobby of our hotel, we will discuss PWA’s “10 Guiding Principles to Great Photography” as well as our “The Art of Seeing” photographic technique. During a group lunch, we will have informal discussions on what our guests are trying to achieve in their photography, subject matters, styles, and techniques. From here, we will set out for a wonderful day of architectural, people, and fine art photography throughout Seville.

Seville is the capital of southern Spain’s Andalusia region. It’s famous for flamenco dancing, particularly in its Triana neighborhood. Major landmarks include the ornate Alcázar Castle complex, built during the Moorish Almohad dynasty, and the 18th-century Plaza de Toros de la Maestranza bullring. The Gothic Seville Cathedral is the site of Christopher Columbus’s tomb and a minaret turned bell tower, the Giralda. We’ll cover all of these on days 1 and 2.

In the evening, we will celebrate with our “Welcome Dinner” at one of our favorite Spanish restaurants. (D)

Day 2 | Seville - Royal Alcázar - Catedral de Sevilla

We’ll set out early to capture Seville as the city awakens. After a morning of street photography, we will set our sights on the Alcázar of Seville. A royal palace built for the Christian king Peter of Castile. It was built by Castilian Christians on the site of an Abbadid Muslim residential fortress, which was destroyed after the Christian conquest of Seville. Adjacent to the Alcázar is the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the See, better known as Seville Cathedral. It was registered in 1987 by UNESCO as a World Heritage site.

After lunch, we will continue our adventure through the city capturing its amazing Arabic and Spanish architecture. In the evening, we will be treated to a flamenco dance while dining. (B)

Day 3 | Jerez - Medina-Sidonia - Parque Los Alcornocales - Marbella

On day three, we’ll depart Seville and drive south toward the Mediterranean Sea. Our first stop will be Jerez, more formally known as “Jerez de la Frontera”. Its old quarter surrounds the Alcázar de Jerez, a Moorish fortress founded in the 11th century. The Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art is a famed riding school with horse shows and a carriage museum. The city is also known for flamenco music and sherry production in the so-called Sherry Triangle lying to the west.

Next, is a little gem called Medina-Sidonia. An unspoiled, ancient white-washed hilltop town, little-known despite its important history. The town was one of Spain’s most important ducal seats in the 15th century; producing an admiral who led the Spanish Armada against England. The title of Duque de Medina Sidonia was bestowed upon the family of Guzmán El Bueno, of the Tarifa siege, for his valiant role in taking the town. It is considered by some to be the oldest city in Europe, used as a military defense location due to its elevation.

On our way to Marbella, we will pass through the scenic mountains of Parque Natural Los Alcornocales. Upon arrival in Marbella, a charming seaside resort on the Costa del Sol, we will check in to our hotel. We’ll spend the evening soaking in the atmosphere of the Spanish Riviera. Just west of town lies the Golden Mile, lined with elegant nightclubs and coastal estates. The road continues to Puerto Banús marina, home to luxury yachts and surrounded by stylish boutiques, lively bars, and inviting restaurants. (B)

Day 4 | Costa del Sol - Granada

After sunrise and breakfast, we will depart for Granada, one of the most celebrated cities in southern Spain. Our journey will follow the scenic Costa del Sol, where we’ll pause to photograph a few charming seaside villages along the way. You’ll quickly see why this region captures the heart of every traveler.

Granada rests at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountains and is renowned for its stunning examples of medieval architecture from the Moorish period, most notably the Alhambra. This vast hilltop fortress complex features royal palaces, tranquil courtyards, and reflecting pools from the Nasrid dynasty, as well as the beautiful fountains and orchards of the Generalife gardens. We’ll check in and begin exploring this magnificent city. (B)

Day 5 | Granada - Alhambra - Nasrid Palaces

We’ll rise early to enter the Alhambra as it opens. To place its significance in context, the Alhambra in Granada is widely regarded as one of the most magnificent structures ever created by humankind. Recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site in 1984, the Alhambra served as a palace, fortress, and citadel; the residence of the Nasrid Sultans, high-ranking officials, court servants, and the royal guard. We’ll spend the morning exploring the Alhambra and the Nasrid Palaces, where intricate Moorish courtyards, grand reception halls, and elegant royal chambers showcase the artistry of a bygone era.

Granada holds so much beauty and history that one could easily spend a week here discovering it through the lens. If it captures your heart, you’ll surely find your way back. (B)

Day 6 | Cordoba - Mosque of Córdoba

After breakfast, we’ll set out westward toward Córdoba. Once an important Roman city and a major center of Islamic culture during the Middle Ages, Córdoba is best known for La Mezquita; the Great Mosque of Córdoba, which was first built in 784 A.D. Its vast prayer hall, lined with rows of columns and adorned with intricate Byzantine mosaics, is one of Spain’s most extraordinary architectural treasures. When the mosque was converted to a Catholic church in 1236, a Renaissance-style nave was added in the 17th century. Officially known as the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Assumption, La Mezquita remains a powerful symbol of the city’s layered history.

In the late afternoon, we’ll turn our attention to street photography, capturing daily life in the narrow lanes and lively plazas. After a well-deserved rest, we’ll gather for our Spanish “Farewell Dinner”; a joyful evening filled with laughter, great food, and memorable reflections on our journey together. (B) (D)

Day 7 | Seville

After an early breakfast, we’ll leave Cordoba and return to Seville Airport (about 1.5 hours west) where we will bid each other farewell. At breakfast, we’ll trade contact information and conduct our last photo review.

We urge you to extend your stay in Seville or elsewhere in Spain and make good use of everything you will learn on our photo adventure. (B)
