Discover Greece’s Dramatic Cliffs, Luminous Villages, and Fiery Evening Skies.
Join our 9-day Greece Photo Tour and Cultural Adventure to discover the ancient capital of Athens and the stunning Greek islands of Santorini and Milos. Fascinating history, dramatic landscapes and emerald coastlines await the travel photographer.
Brimming with history, mythology, and philosophy, Athens was the birthplace of democracy and offers a compelling mix of ancient and modern. The city unfolds beneath the Parthenon, its most iconic structure, and the Agora, once the heart of Athenian political life. Beyond the Acropolis, the historic Old Town rewards photographers with laundry-clad whitewashed facades, neoclassical buildings, and Byzantine churches — a glimpse into the ages.
Santorini, the crescent-shaped island born of a volcanic crater in the Aegean, is everybody’s idyllic vision of Greece: whitewashed houses, blue-domed churches, hilltop windmills, and pristine beaches. Oia’s sunsets are a romantic symbol of the island, and we’ll aim to capture that golden-hour serenity in both landscape and portrait. As night falls, candlelit tavernas and boutiques cast a warm glow over the island, while its shores offer volcanic pebble, black, white, and rust-red sand beaches beneath towering cliffs.
Set between Sifnos and Santorini, volcanic Milos arches around a central caldera, ringed by surreal, colorful rock formations. Home of the (now Louvre-bound) Venus de Milo, Milos offers more beaches than any other Cycladic island, along with picturesque villages, hot springs, and wild goats. It’s a raw, unaltered Greece — a secret getaway for an authentic island experience.
This adventure is designed to guide you to the most photogenic locations in the best light, while helping you visualize a scene before capturing the decisive moment. We’ll sharpen your creative eye, teach you to turn an ordinary image into an extraordinary one, and show you how to photograph people with cultural sensitivity. With individual and group discussions and plenty of inspiration along the way, there’s no better place to unleash your creativity than the Greek Isles.

*All prices are per person and based on double occupancy. Please select single occupancy for a private room. For your convenience, we offer optional early arrival and late departure accommodations so you can extend your stay before or after the trip. We typically stay in upscale boutique hotels in the 4 and 5-star category. Not all destinations offer these types of properties. We look for unique hotels that offer cultural, historic, and/or authentic features. Depending on the size of the group, smaller boutique hotels may have limited room inventory. In some countries or in remote locations, we may be limited to lodges or branded chain hotels. In Cuba, we stay in upscale family-owned Casas (bread & breakfasts). On all of our tours, breakfast is almost always included, but not guaranteed. Meal categories listed include (B) for breakfast, (L) for lunch, and (D) for dinner.
ITINERARY
GREECE PHOTO TOUR – 9 DAYS
Day 1 | Athens
We’ll meet at our hotel in Athens. Over an easy lunch, we’ll talk informally about what each of you hopes to capture favorite subjects, styles, techniques.
Then we head out for a day focused on ancient architecture, street photography, and cityscapes. We start beneath the Parthenon, still commanding the Athens skyline after 2,500 years. From there, we wander the Old Town’s narrow streets, colorful facades, and lively markets, ending at bustling Monastiraki Square. The day closes with a Welcome Dinner at one of our favorite local tavernas. (D)
Day 2 | Athens - Santorini
After breakfast, we check out and head to the airport for a flight to Santorini.
Later, our lunch will be on the edge of the Caldera — the collapsed crater of an ancient volcano, and one of the most dramatic views in the Aegean. Here we map out four days on an island that has become shorthand for Greece itself: whitewashed villages cascading down black cliffs into an impossibly blue sea.
We begin in Imerovigli, the “Balcony of the Aegean,” where cave houses trace narrow, winding lanes along the caldera’s rim. Leveled by the 1956 earthquake and rebuilt with quiet devotion, the village now wears its cave dwellings as chic boutique hotels, carved into volcanic rock and hung with bougainvillea.
From there, we trace the caldera’s edge to Fira, its whitewashed buildings tumbling toward the sea in view of the volcanic islets of Palaia Kameni and Nea Kameni. As evening arrives, the light turns gold, then rose, then violet — the island’s nightly performance, best watched with a glass of local wine in hand. We close the day at one of our favorite tavernas, where candlelight and the last color in the sky make for a fitting end to Santorini’s first day. (B)
Day 3 | Santorini - Firostefani - Ammoudi - Oia
After breakfast, we head to Firostefani, just north of Fira. Quieter and more intimate than its larger neighbor, the village offers a fresh angle on the Santorini volcano and sweeping views back toward Fira — a great spot for wide shots that capture the caldera’s full curve. Vividly colored houses line the lanes, perfect for detail and texture shots, while cafes, restaurants, and the Agios Nikolas Monastery add character along the path toward Imerovigli.
In the late afternoon, we drive to Oia — pronounced “EE-ah” — the most photographed village in Santorini and, for many, all of Greece. Perched on a dramatic cliff above the Aegean, Oia is a maze of narrow streets, blue-domed churches, and sun-bathed verandas, offering endless framing options: shoot down winding staircases, through archways, or across rooftops for classic Cycladic compositions. The volcano feels more distant from here, but the interplay of white walls and blue domes more than makes up for it.
For those up for a hike, 300 steps lead down to Ammoudi, Oia’s tiny port, where the cliffs rising overhead make for dramatic low-angle shots and reflections in the harbor water. As the day winds down, we set up for Oia’s legendary sunset, golden light giving way to the cobalt-blue twilight that has made this village a symbol of the Cyclades. We’ll work both landscape compositions and silhouetted portraits against the fading sky. Bring your tripod; this is the shot everyone comes to Santorini for. (B)
Day 4 | Santorini - Mesaria - Pyrgos - Emporio
Early in the morning, we head to Mesaria, a quiet village set among vineyards at the island’s center. A slow walk through its lanes reveals neoclassical mansions and restored buildings, ideal for architectural detail shots and textures far removed from Santorini’s postcard whitewash.
Next, we climb to Pyrgos Kallistis, perched on a hilltop with panoramic views across the island. Santorini’s capital until the early 1800s, Pyrgos is built around a Venetian castle, with traditional Cycladic houses following the natural curve of the hillside. The amphitheater-like layout makes for striking wide shots, and the village’s many churches offer strong compositions of white walls against blue sky. Nearby stands Santorini’s most famous church, the Monastery of Prophet Elias, crowning the island’s highest peak.
From there, we continue to Emporio, Santorini’s largest settlement, tucked into the foothills of Mount Prophet Elias. Its medieval character remains intact, with narrow stone streets and well-preserved houses that reward slow, deliberate shooting. Two blue-domed churches and a striking bell tower mark the village entrance, while a centuries-old fortress halfway up the hill leans dramatically into the landscape — a favorite subject for photographers drawn to weathered stone and shadow. The road winds down past the local market and small hotels toward Perissa Beach, with its black volcanic sand meeting the deep blue Aegean. (B)
Day 5 | Santorini - Kamari - Akrotiri Village - Red Beach
After breakfast, we head to Kamari Beach, known for its wide stretch of black volcanic sand and rows of striped umbrellas. Santorini’s liveliest resort town, Kamari mixes fishing boats bobbing in the harbor with beachside cafés — great territory for candid street and harbor shots before the day heats up. After lunch, we have the afternoon to relax, swim, or try diving and snorkeling along the coast. For photographers who’d rather stay active, a trail climbs Mesa Vouno Mountain to the ruins of Ancient Thira, with sweeping views over both Kamari and neighboring Perissa.
Later, we visit Akrotiri, one of the Aegean’s most significant archaeological sites, sitting just above the famous Red Beach. Once a thriving Minoan settlement, Akrotiri was buried by a volcanic eruption around 1600 BC and preserved much as it stood — two-story buildings, cobbled streets, and traces of daily life frozen in ash. It’s a rare chance to photograph history at eye level, in raking light that brings out the texture of ancient stone. Nearby, the whitewashed church of Agios Nikolaos sits dramatically above the red cliffs, one of the island’s most striking photo subjects.
As the sun drops, we position ourselves along the Red Beach cliffs to capture their deep, saturated color at golden hour, then close the day with dinner at one of our favorite beachside restaurants. (B)
Day 6 | Santorini - Milos
Today we take a ferry to Milos, the most volcanic and untamed of the Cycladic islands, a raw landscape of surreal rock formations, hidden coves, and villages that feel worlds away from Santorini’s polish. After settling into our hotel, we set out to explore.
We begin at Apollonia, a charming fishing village built around a small harbor. Whitewashed houses trace the waterfront in classic Cycladic style, offering the kind of clean, sun-bleached compositions travelers picture when they imagine Greece. A quiet beach rounds out the village, perfect for wide shots along the coastline.
From there, we visit Klima, one of the island’s most photogenic villages. Its waterfront houses, known as syrmata, were built with boat garages on the ground floor and doors and shutters painted in bold blues, reds, and yellows — a striking subject for color and detail photography, especially in the soft light of late afternoon. (B)
Day 7 | Milos - Sarakiniko - Papafragas - Plaka
Today we head to Sarakiniko, on Milos’s northern coast and easily the island’s most photographed spot. Sculpted by volcanic eruptions into smooth white stone, the landscape feels almost lunar — a rare subject that rewards both wide shots and abstract close-ups of texture and light. Sea caves hide beneath the white rock, and the light here shifts so dramatically through the day that we’ll likely return later for a second round of shooting.
From there, we visit the Cave of Papafragas, a complex of sea caves carved by volcanic activity and split by a narrow ravine. Its turquoise waters draw snorkelers and photographers alike, framed by dramatic rock walls that plunge straight into the sea.
We continue on to Plaka, the capital of Milos, where traditional Cycladic architecture, sweeping Aegean views, and homemade pastries fill the village’s narrow streets. Nearby, we visit the island’s early Christian catacombs, one of the most significant early Christian sites in Greece. (B)
Day 8 | Milos - Sailing Trip
Day 9 | Milos - Athens
On our final day, we check out of the hotel after breakfast before taking our flight back to Athens.
On arrival, we will trade contact information and bid each other farewell. We urge you to extend your stay in Greece and make good use of everything you will learn on our photo adventure. (B)
(B) Breakfast, (L) Lunch, (D) Dinner, (E) Excursion
