Discover the Big Cats of the Serengeti: A Private Safari Adventure.

Step into the untamed heart of Africa on an exclusive Photo Workshop Adventures photographic journey led by acclaimed fine art wildlife photographer Johan Siggesson. This is no ordinary safari—it’s a deeply personal, private exploration of the Serengeti, with its endless golden plains and dramatic skies, where the world’s most iconic predators roam free.

Over the course of this remarkable adventure, our focus will be on the legendary Big Cats—the regal lions, the lightning-fast cheetahs, and the elusive, shadow-dwelling leopards. From the thunderous roar of a lion pride greeting the dawn to the hypnotic grace of a cheetah in full sprint, and the silent elegance of a leopard draped across an acacia branch, each encounter offers a front-row seat to the raw beauty of life on the African plains.

Every moment in the Serengeti is alive with possibility. Early mornings will find us venturing out under soft, golden light, when the predators are most active, the air still cool, and the landscape painted in pastels. Afternoons may be spent in hushed anticipation, watching a leopard’s deliberate movements or witnessing the tender moments of a lioness with her cubs. Johan will be by your side, sharing his artistic vision and guiding you in capturing not just what you see, but the very soul of the wild—from mastering light and composition to crafting images that tell a compelling story.

This journey is designed for both seasoned photographers and passionate wildlife lovers who want to go beyond the lens and into the essence of Africa. Every game drive is carefully timed and planned to place us in the right location for extraordinary encounters. While our focus is on the Big Cats, the Serengeti’s diverse ecosystem ensures we’ll also cross paths with elephants, giraffes, hyenas, and countless bird species, all set against some of the most cinematic landscapes on Earth.

By the end of our adventure, you’ll return home not only with a portfolio of breathtaking fine art images, but with an indelible connection to this extraordinary land—a place where nature still reigns supreme and the wild heart of Africa beats strong.

ITINERARY

10 DAY | BIG CATS OF THE SERENGETI

(This is a sample Itinerary. Curate your own itinerary to your personal preferences)

Day 1 | Arrival in Tanzania

Welcome to the wild heart of East Africa! Upon arrival in Tanzania, you’ll be met and transferred to our hotel—a serene base where you can relax and recover from your travels. Take some time to settle in, refresh, and perhaps step outside to feel the warm evening air and listen to the distant calls of unfamiliar birds.

As the sun dips below the horizon, we’ll gather for a Welcome Dinner, a relaxed yet inspiring evening where friendships begin to form. Johan will introduce himself and share the vision for the days ahead, walking you through our carefully crafted itinerary and explaining how we’ll seek out and photograph the Serengeti’s most charismatic predators: the lion, the cheetah, and the leopard. He’ll offer a glimpse into his fine art approach, discuss the conditions we’ll encounter, and outline how we’ll position ourselves to capture the power, grace, and essence of these magnificent animals.

It’s the perfect start to our adventure—an evening of shared excitement, delicious Tanzanian cuisine, and the promise of extraordinary encounters in the wild. (D)

Day 2 | Flight to the Serengeti – Arrival at Namiri Plains

The day begins with an early breakfast before we board a scenic bush flight bound for the legendary Serengeti. From the air, watch as the vast African plains unfold beneath you, rolling grasslands dotted with acacia trees, winding rivers, and herds of wildlife moving like shadows across the land.

We touch down near the renowned Namiri Plains, a remote and exclusive region famed for its exceptional big cat population. This is a place where cheetahs reign over the open plains, lions patrol the golden grass, and leopards slink silently among the trees. The sense of wilderness here is profound, no crowds, just raw nature in every direction.

Upon arrival at our luxury tented camp, you’ll be welcomed with warm hospitality and refreshing drinks before settling into your elegant suite. After a freshly prepared lunch overlooking the sweeping savanna, we set out on our very first game drive. The late-afternoon light will bathe the landscape in gold, offering our first opportunities to capture striking portraits and dramatic action shots of the predators that call this area home.

As the sun sets in a blaze of orange and crimson, we return to camp for a night under the stars, the distant roar of lions a reminder that we are truly in the wild. (B, L, D)

Days 3–9 | Immersed in the Wild Heart of the Namiri Plains

The real adventure begins here, seven full days devoted entirely to the beauty, drama, and raw power of the Serengeti’s big cats. With Johan’s expert eye guiding our every move, we’ll work to create images that go beyond snapshots, telling the story of these apex predators in their natural kingdom.

Our schedule is crafted around the rhythm of the wild:

Morning Drives:
Each day begins before sunrise, when the first light spills over the plains and the air is still cool. This is the golden window when predators are most active—lions finishing the night’s hunt, cheetahs scanning the horizon for prey, leopards descending from their nighttime perches. We’ll take packed breakfasts so we can stay in the field, maximizing our time with the animals and photographing them in the soft, ethereal light of dawn.

Midday Breaks:
By late morning, we return to camp for a hearty lunch and a chance to unwind. Afternoons are for reviewing images, discussing wildlife behavior, and learning new techniques from Johan, whether it’s refining composition, mastering backlighting, or anticipating the decisive moment, and of course, some rest and relaxation to recharge your batteries.

Afternoon Drives:
As the sun begins to dip, the Serengeti transforms. Warm, golden light bathes the landscape, casting long shadows and painting every subject with a cinematic glow. These drives often bring powerful photographic opportunities, from a pride of lions silhouetted against the sunset to a cheetah poised for a sprint.

While lions, cheetahs, and leopards will be our main subjects, the Serengeti’s stage is vast and diverse. Along the way, we’ll encounter elephants grazing peacefully, buffalo herds kicking up dust, zebras etched against the horizon, and gazelles darting through the grass—each scene another chance to create something extraordinary.

Every evening, we return to the comfort of camp, swapping stories over dinner beneath a canopy of stars, the night alive with the distant calls of the very animals we’ve been photographing. (B, L, D)

Day 10 | Final Morning Game Drive & Farewell to the Serengeti

Our last day in the Namiri Plains begins, fittingly, with the magic of dawn. If time allows, we’ll head out for one final game drive—a last chance to watch the Serengeti awaken, to listen to the calls of distant lions, and to capture the first light touching the golden grasses. Every moment feels heightened on this final morning, each frame a keepsake of our journey.

Afterward, we return to camp for breakfast, sharing stories and highlights over coffee before boarding our flight back toward the departure airport. From there, you may choose to extend your African adventure or begin your onward journey home, carrying with you a collection of extraordinary photographs and the memories of a once-in-a-lifetime experience. (B)

This is an exclusive PWA private safari with Johan, and the itinerary you’ve seen here is only a framework—designed to inspire. We welcome your preferences so we can tailor every detail to your vision. For those seeking even more, this journey can be seamlessly paired with our Private Safari with Johan in Amboseli National Park, where the legendary giant tuskers roam beneath the shadow of Kilimanjaro, a fitting encore to an unforgettable photographic expedition.
