Where antiquity meets azure seas — the spirit of Croatia awaits.
Join us on our 9-day Croatia Photo Tour and Cultural Adventure, a photographic voyage through the country’s rich natural and architectural landscape. This photo trip seamlessly weaves coastal villages, National Parks, and the must-visit cities of Zagreb, Šibenik, Split, and Dubrovnik, where time-honored Roman, Greek, and Venetian architecture are living testament to centuries upon centuries of history.

Our photo tour adventure begins in Zagreb, Croatia’s capital. Wind through its labyrinthine streets, which reveal architectural treasures ready to be immortalized through your lens. As the sun sets, the city comes alive with pulsating nightlife for us to capture street photography.

Venturing southward into the region of Dalmatia, we will explore two breathtaking National Parks: Plitvice Lakes (UNESCO) and Krka. The beauty of their cascading waterfalls, lush forests, and crystal-clear lakes is sure to leave you speechless. In the 1000-year-old city of Šibenik, the ancient whispers of its Roman, Hungarian-Croat, and Venetian past, will propel your creative expression.

Likewise, the old coastal town of Trogir, which stands intact from the days when it was built, will remain perfectly preserved in your photographic memory as one of the most outstanding destinations of our photo trip. And, if weather allows, we will set sail to the enchanting island of Hvar, a photographer’s paradise. Here, prepare for a symphony of colors to dance before your lens, as banks of dark green pine trees line azure waters flecked with golden sunlight.

We will also visit the city of Split, where Diocletian’s Palace (UNESCO), a 1,700-year-old, 30,000-square-meter marvel, stands as an ode to the grandeur of the Roman Empire. Finally, our journey concludes in Dubrovnik, the crown jewel of Croatia. Within its fortified walls, our cameras will capture this city’s trademark opulence and elegance.

This immersive 9-day photography tour is more than just a quest to capture exceptional images; it’s an invitation to elevate your craft and see the world through a fresh lens. Our expert photographer guides will not only lead you to the most photogenic locations under the best light, but help you master the art of visual storytelling. Along the way, you’ll refine your camera techniques and discover how to navigate the challenges of photographing in a foreign land. You’ll also learn to anticipate a scene before capturing the decisive moment, elevating ordinary photos into extraordinary works of art.

Join us for spirited discussions, enriching camaraderie, and moments of unforgettable inspiration. Croatia, with its expanse of coastlines and architecture, provides the ultimate backdrop to fuel your photographic exploration. Your visual odyssey begins here!

ITINERARY

CROATIA PHOTO TOUR – 9 DAYS

Day 1 | Zagreb

We’ll meet at our Hotel in Zagreb where we will discuss PWA’s “10 Guiding Principles to Great Photography” as well as our “The Art of Seeing” photographic technique. During a group lunch, we will have informal discussions on what our guests are trying to achieve in their photography, subject matters, styles, and techniques. We will spend the afternoon photographing the streets and people of Zagreb, a wonderful mix of Balkan and Austrian flavors. During our evening walk, we’ll soak in the romantic atmosphere of the Upper Town, which has been illuminated by 214 gas lanterns for the past 150 years. After that, we will celebrate the groups’ arrival with a “Welcome Dinner” at one of our favorite Croatian restaurants. (D)

Day 2 | Zagreb

After breakfast, we will visit the complex of Cathedral of The Assumption of Virgin Mary and the Archbishop’s palace. We will continue to the Dolac Market, the central Zagreb market. Then, we will take you for a coffee at the famous Tkalčićeva street to show you what a local coffee culture means. After a few more photos of the baroque Upper Town, where there is a Parliament building, Croatian government, and Old City Hall, we will go downtown by funicular – one of the smallest in the world.

Downtown was designed during the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and it’s the reason why Zagreb is called ” small Vienna”. In the afternoon, we will visit the famous open art gallery “The Cemetery of Mirogoj”. (B)

Day 3 | Plitvice Lakes National Park - Šibenik

We’ll check out early in the morning and drive to Plitvice Lakes, which is the biggest and the most famous national park in Croatia. The lakes were accepted as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. The waters flowing over the limestone and chalk have, over thousands of years, deposited travertine barriers, creating natural dams, which in turn have created a series of beautiful lakes, caves, and waterfalls. These geological processes continue even today. The forests in the park are home to bears, wolves, and many rare bird species. There, we will walk along forest paths and across little wooden bridges and take a boat ride through the Kozjak lake. We will take pictures of memorable landscapes and turquoise waters. Later in the evening, we will be checking into our hotel in Šibenik. (B)

Day 4 | Krka National Park

In the morning, we will depart for Krka National Park, where we will visit the Roski waterfall, which is surrounded by beautiful nature and cascading waterfalls. Here you can photograph nature in all its magnificence. Then, we will visit a small village with water mills that were used for the production of flour, washing clothes, etc. After that, we will visit Visovac Island, located in the lake created by the Krka River, where a Franciscan monastery dating back to 1445, stands. Beautiful landscapes, old mills, and the winding river Krka, will give us excellent conditions for photography and the possibility of stunning panoramic photos. (B)

Day 5 | Šibenik - Primosten - Trogir - Adriatic Coast - Split

On day five, we’ll check out of our hotel and head to Šibenik, one of the oldest and most beautiful Croatian cities. A 1000-year-old town, a historical and cultural monument with well-preserved fortresses, and ramparts from the past, it will leave you breathless. The monumental St. James Cathedral, built over more than a century ago, is included in the World Cultural Heritage protected by UNESCO.

After Šibenik, we’ll drive along the Dalmatian coast, stopping first at Primosten before arriving at our hotel in Split.

Split is the second-largest city in Croatia, with a history that dates back to the Greeks. It’s famous for the Diocletian’s Palace, built in the third century AD, for the Roman emperor Diocletian. Today, it covers about half of the old town of Split. (B)

Day 6 | Split - Dubrovnik

In the morning, we will explore more of the old city and the Split fish market. We will stroll along Split’s stunning Riva promenade, where there are plenty of photo opportunities. This is a not-to-be-missed opportunity to photograph St. Duje Cathedral, Peristil, The Golden gate, Statue of Gregory of Nin, City clock, and so much more.

In the afternoon, we’ll drive to the south of Croatia, stopping at Neretva valley along the way before arriving in Dubrovnik. (B)

Day 7 | Dubrovnik

On day seven, we’ll dive right in with an early morning walk along the ancient walls of Dubrovnik, from one end to the other. This walk will offer us spectacular views of the city, the sea, the islands, and the mountains that watch over this magnificent fortress.

Dubrovnik has been described as a jewel encased by city walls and, beyond them, by the unbroken blue of the sea. Here, we will concentrate on people, seascape, and architecture photography. In the late afternoon, we will explore the city’s inner streets, getting to know the city better. In the evening, we will visit the harbor, armed with our tripods, and experiment with low-light and sunset photography. (B)

Day 8 | Dubrovnik - Cavtat

Today, we’ll travel just south of Dubrovnik to the enchanting seaside village of Cavtat. The city is perched on the saddle of a wooded peninsula, set between two bays, so you’re never more than moments away from the water. The sea is as still as a mirror, a deep and brilliant blue with pools of green reflected from the pine forests beyond. A wide promenade, fringed with palm trees, runs along the harbor front. This fascinating and cultured destination in itself is an amazing place to spend the day capturing yet another image of Croatia.

In the late afternoon, we will take a cable car up the mountain that overlooks the old city. Here, we will experience breathtaking views of Dubrovnik, the crystal clear Adriatic Sea, and the surrounding islands. We’ll photograph the city from high up, including the sunset and twilight before returning to sea level. Be sure to bring your tripod.

In the evening, we will enjoy a wonderful “Farewell Dinner” at a restaurant in Dubrovnik, where we will have great fun and laughter as we’ll discuss all the highlights of the trip. (B) (D)

Day 9 | Dubrovnik

In the early morning, we’ll walk the walls of the city, from one end to the other. This walk will offer us spectacular views of the city, the sea, the islands, and the mountains that watch over this magnificent fortress. Dubrovnik has been described as a jewel encased by city walls and, beyond them, by the unbroken blue of the sea.

We will check out after breakfast and bid farewell to each other. We urge you to extend your stay in Dubrovnik or elsewhere in Croatia or Montenegro and make good use of everything you will learn on our photo adventure. You can also join our 3-day Dubrovnik extension, and explore more with us. (B)

EXTENSION: DUBROVNIK & MONTENEGRO

Day 1 | Dubrovnik - Kotor Bay

Today, we’ll depart Dubrovnik and Croatia in the early morning hours for a short drive south to Montenegro, first to Budva and then to Kotor Bay. Montenegro is only 45 minutes from Dubrovnik.

Budva is a coastal town in Montenegro and it is well known for its sandy beaches and nightlife, but there are just as many historical and cultural sights to see and photograph.

Budva is 2,500-years-old, which makes it one of the oldest settlements on the Adriatic coast. We will explore Budva’s Old Town and walk the length of the old town walls. From here, we will visit the island of Sveti Stefan, where we’ll have lunch.

Next up will be the amazing medieval village of Kotor and Kotor Bay. We will enjoy the magnificent views of the fjord-like mountains. Kotor is so dramatic in real life that it is honestly impossible to describe with words. Kotor is a UNESCO World Heritage site, known for its numerous cultural and historic monuments. Later that afternoon, we will return to our hotel in Dubrovnik (B)

Day 2 | Dubrovnik - Korčula - Ston

Today, we’ll head north to the island of Korčula. Korčula is rich in vineyards, olive groves, small villages, and hamlets. The island’s dense woods have led the original Greek settlers to call the island Korkyra Melaina (Black Korčula). We will visit its main settlement, Korčula Town, which is a gorgeous grid of marble streets and impressive architecture.

Upon our return, we will stop in Ston on the Pelješac Peninsula. The village of Ston is known for three things – its very well preserved medieval walls, its salt works, and its oysters! The walls of Ston are perhaps what this little village is best known for, and rightfully so. The walls here are longer than those of its more famous neighbor, Dubrovnik, at around 5.5 kms, surrounding the Old Town and making them one of the most prominent defensive structures on the Adriatic coast. They are sometimes referred to as the ‘European Walls of China”.

Built in the 14th and 15th centuries, these walls served as additional defenses for the Republic of Ragusa (Dubrovnik) and protected the valuable salt pans in the area. The walls also consist of three fortresses – Veliki Kastil (in Ston), Korula (Mali Ston) and Prodzvizd Fort. (B)

Day 3 | Dubrovnik - Departure

We will check out after breakfast and bid farewell to each other. We urge you to extend your stay in Dubrovnik or elsewhere in Croatia or Montenegro, and make good use of everything you’ll learn on our photo tour adventure. (B)
