Our 9-day Morocco Photo Tour will leave you craving more photo opportunities beyond the ancient Medina’s of Marrakech and Fez, the captivating coastal cities of Essaouira, Jadida, and Safi, and the allure of the blue city, Chefchaouen. That’s where our 6-day extension to the Sahara Desert comes in, with its Casbahs, oasis, small tribal villages, and, of course, the great Sahara!
King Hassan II (1929-1999) once described Morocco as a country whose roots lie in Africa but whose leaves breathe in European air. Morocco’s rich history, multicultural population, and varied geography make it a fascinating country. Its villages and cities offer a striking contrast of ancient casbahs, mosques and souks, and modern architecture, with a mix of Berber, Arab, and African peoples. The Atlas mountains run like a spine from southwest to northwest, separating the cities from the desert. Its architecture spans from the Almoravid, Almohad, Merinid, and Saadian civilizations (11th -17th centuries), to the Alaouites (17th century to present day). The cities of Fez, Rabat and Marrakech, and High Atlas offer photographers a variety of culture, color, architecture, and nature. And the Medina’s in Fez and Marrakech are both UNESCO World Heritage sites.
Our 9-Day Morocco Photo Adventure will take you to the ancient cities of Fez and Marrakech, Chefchaouen (better known as the Blue Pearl or Blue City, the Roman ruins of Volubilis, and along the coast to the 16th-century fortified Portuguese colonies of El Jadida, Safi, and Essaouira. Each of these cities enjoys ancient medinas with strong Portuguese and French influences. Although Fez and Marrakech are well known around the world, you will find these coastal cities more authentic and perhaps even more photographic than their inland counterparts. We end in Marrakech, a city filled with excitement, entertainment, history, color, culture, and much more.
Our 6-Day Sahara Photo Adventure takes in so much more than just the Sahara Desert. Whether you are continuing from our amazing 9-day Morocco Adventure or coming just for the Desert Photo Adventure, you will surely enjoy this magical carpet ride. We depart Marrakech and cross the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass in the High Atlas Mountains. Here everything changes, and a very different Morocco emerges. From the barren desert to the stunning red rock mountains outlined by lush green river beds, the contrast is spectacular and all that is needed for breathtaking landscapes. We’ll explore casbahs and stunning villages along the way before we arrive at our luxury tent camp. Here you will experience the authentic remote lifestyles of the indigenous Berber tribespeople. Be prepared for many amazing photo opportunities.
This adventure is designed not only to guide you to the most photogenic locations carefully planned for the best light but to aid you in mentally visualizing a scene before capturing the decisive moment. Our aim is to raise your awareness and spark your creativity so that you not only go home with images to be proud of but use your newfound skills to improve and expand your photographic technique in general. Apart from the technical aspect of learning your camera settings and capabilities, you will learn how to turn an ordinary image into an extraordinary image by using your own creativity.
In addition, you will become knowledgeable on how to survey the landscape, utilize and approach your environment, photograph people indigenous to the region, and the cultural considerations and challenges of photographing in a foreign country. Our time together will include individual and group discussions, inspiring ideas, and great fun. We cannot think of a better location to express your creativity than the exotic nature of Morocco.
