Skeleton Coast, Swakopmund, Epupa Falls and Etosha
Explore fine art, landscape and wildlife photography in this fascinating country.
This adventure is designed not only to guide you to the most photogenic locations carefully planned for the best light, but to aid you in mentally visualizing a scene before capturing the decisive moment. Our aim is to raise your awareness and spark your creativity so that you not only go home with images to be proud of, but use your new found skills to improve and expand your photographic technique in general. Apart from the technical aspect of learning your camera settings and capabilities, you will learn how to turn an ordinary image into an extraordinary image by using your own creativity.
In addition, you will become knowledgeable on how to survey the landscape, utilize and approach your environment, photograph people indigenous to the region and the cultural considerations and challenges of photographing in a foreign country. Our week together will include individual and group discussions, inspiring ideas and great fun. What better location to express your creativity than the magic of Namibia.

*All prices are per person and based on double occupancy. Please select single occupancy for a private room. For your convenience, we offer optional early arrival and late departure accommodations so you can extend your stay before or after the trip. We typically stay in upscale boutique hotels in the 4 and 5-star category. Not all destinations offer these types of properties. We look for unique hotels that offer cultural, historic, and/or authentic features. Depending on the size of the group, smaller boutique hotels may have limited room inventory. In some countries or in remote locations, we may be limited to lodges or branded chain hotels. In Cuba, we stay in upscale family-owned Casas (bread & breakfasts). On all of our tours, breakfast is almost always included, but not guaranteed. Meal categories listed include (B) for breakfast, (L) for lunch, and (D) for dinner.
ITINERARY
NAMIBIA SAFARI 15 DAYS
Day 1 | Windhoek - Otjiwarongo
Welcome to Namibia! We meet at noon at our Hotel in Windhoek, Namibia. We depart with our English speaking guide north towards Otjiwarongo. After settling in and resting we get together to discuss the itinerary, schedules and get to know each other. We will discuss PWA’s “10 Guiding Principles of Photography” as well as our “THE ART OF SEEING” photographic technique and how we will specifically apply it in Namibia. In the evening we celebrate with our “Welcome Dinner”. (D)
Day 2 | Otjiwarongo - Etosha East
We depart early from the lodge for “Leopard Tracking”. Brunch at the lodge after the activity and depart to the north towards Etosha National Park. Our first game drive will be in the afternoon in Etosha with our guide and vehicle. All vehicles are open top Land Cruisers. Etosha National Park is one of the largest parks in Africa. Etosha owes its unique landscape to the Etosha Pan, a vast shallow depression of approximately 5000km².
Etosha National Park was proclaimed as Namibia’s first conservation area in 1907 by the then German government. At that stage it covered a vast area of 93,240 km² and was then the largest game reserve in the world. Of the 114 mammals species found in the park several are rare and endangered, such as the black rhino, cheetah and black-faced impala. Dinner and overnight at Onguma Tented Camp. (B) (L) (D)
Day 3 | Etosha East
Today is dedicated again to wildlife and safari photography. Depart early this morning for another safari in Etosha with your guide and vehicle of the tour. Day 10 | Twyfelfontein
We visit the famous Twyfelfontein site to discover the rock paintings and engravings. There are more than 3,000 rock engravings, showing all the constellations of the southern herd of headless animals, ostriches in hand, and four lions whose tails end in a hand grabbing a giraffe. An amazing outdoor art gallery. Lunch at the lodge. Leisure time to rest and enjoy the lodge or do a walk with our guide to discover the surroundings or return with our guide for anther drive to look for desert elephants. Dinner and night at Doro Nawas. (B) (L) (D)
Day 11 | Twyfelfontein - Swakopmund
Today we travel to Swakopmund via the Skeleton Coast. Lunch on the way. We will also drive through the Namib Desert before reaching the coast. Arrival in Swakopmund at the end of the afternoon. Swakopmund is an example of German colonial architecture. It was founded in 1892 as the main harbor for German South-West Africa. Today it is the main beach resort area in Namibia. Dinner in a restaurant. Overnight at Swakopmund Hotel. (B) (L) (D)
Day 12 | Swakopmund
Today we have a FREE DAY in Swakopmund. Different activities are possible according to the guests’ interests and what they want to photograph: animals, landscapes, people, architecture… or just take a day to enjoy. Excursions can include…
– Dolphin Cruise (to see seals, birds, maybe dolphins…) on the Walvis Bay lagoon, with brunch served on board (morning only).
– Morning excursion to the dunes to look for all the small desert creatures: chameleons, snakes, beetles… (morning only).
– Quad Biking.
– Scenic flight in a small plane (5 seats) along the coast to Sossusvlei/Deadvlei and back through the Kuiseb river (or vice-versa) – different itineraries possible.
– Township tours, to meet people from different cultures.
– 4×4 excursion to Sandwich Harbour, where the giant dunes fall down into the ocean (can be combined with the boat in the morning).
Lunch is excluded today (included in some activities). Dinner in a sea side restaurant. Overnight at Swakopmund Hotel. (B) (D)
Day 13 | Swakopmund - Sesriem
Today we travel towards the Kuiseb River, a very important dry riverbed in Namibia as it stops the progression of the dunes towards the North. Lunch on the way. We will cross the Namib Naukluft Park and check in at the end of the day at the lodge, located inside the park. Weather permitting, we will go with our guide to Elim Dune to photograph the sunset. Dinner and overnight at Sossus Dunes Lodge – Dune Chalet. (B) (L) (D)
Day 14 | Namib Desert
Breakfast before sunrise. After breakfast we depart early towards the Sossusvlei and Deadvlei area where some dunes measure up to 300 meters in height. Depending on the time of day, they acquire diverse colors – from yellow to red, going through the different shades of orange. Climb one of the dunes and see how expansive the desert is. Return to the entrance of the park. Lunch. Explore the Sesriem Canyon: centuries of erosion have incised a narrow gorge about 1km in length. At the foot of the gorge, which plunges down 30 – 40 meters, are pools that become replenished after good rains. All make some amazing photography.
In the evening we celebrate with our “Farewell Dinner” back at the lodge. Overnight at Sossus Dunes Lodge – Dune Chalet. (B) (L) (D)
Day 15 | Sesriem - Windhoek Airport
After breakfast we hit the road back to Windhoek where we will bid you farewell. Depending on the time of your flight, you may choose to visit the city of Windhoek with our guide, or free time for shopping. Book your outbound flight for the late afternoon. We will not arrive before 2 PM (14:00). (B)
(B) Breakfast, (L) Lunch, (D) Dinner, (E) Excursion
