London will enthral you, seduce you, and guarantee you a groovy time.

London & Cotswolds Photo Adventure Vacations – Inspire, Create and Learn.

London has always been a compelling capital but right now it's also one of the most dynamic hubs on earth, leading the vanguard in music, visual arts, fashion, film and, these days, even food. London's back in the spotlight and it is certifiably groovy. Wandering through its rain-sodden streets is a unique experience. We take giddy delight in its icons: the open-backed red buses, black cabs, police bobbies and their hats, pinstriped workers and London Underground signs.

As England’s capital, London is set on the River Thames, is a 21st-century city with history stretching back to Roman times. At its centre stand the imposing Houses of Parliament, the iconic ‘Big Ben’ clock tower and Westminster Abbey, site of British monarch coronations. Across the Thames, the London Eye observation wheel provides panoramic views of the South Bank cultural complex, and the entire city.

Because of it's long history and the many centuries of being the capital of a large empire, London has many splendid monuments and places to photograph. Here is a list of some of the highlights of our tour. By district, they include... St. James's, Mayfair and Piccadilly: Buckingham Palace, The Mall to Trafalgar Square, National Gallery. In the City: Tower of London, Tower Bridge, St. Paul's Cathedral. In Westminster and Bankside: Tate Galleries, Westminster Abbey, Houses of Parliament & Big Ben. In Knightsbridge, Kensington and Chelsea: Harrods, Victoria & Albert museum, Science museum, Natural History museum. And lastly in Covent Garden, Bloomsbury and Soho: British Museum, British Library, Madame Tussaud. London will surely enthral you, seduce you and, on any given day of the week, probably lead you to a hangover.

No trip to the U.K would be complete without a visit to some of England’s rolling hills and grassland. With this in mind, we have added a fabulous 3 day extension to the Cotswold countryside. Rich in history, this region of the U.K is full of quaint villages containing thatched roof and stone cottages, exquisite mansions, castles and churches, narrow winding lanes, beautiful tree-lined canals and woodlands. Considered one of the most beautiful areas of England, Cotswolds is known and loved by people across the world. It is the largest of 38 Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty in England and Wales: an area of warmth and clarity with stone walls and captivating villages, making it perfect for outstanding English landscapes - a landscape once experienced, never forgotten.

This adventure is designed not only to guide you to the most photogenic locations carefully planned for the best light, but to aid you in mentally visualizing a scene before capturing the decisive moment. Our aim is to raise your awareness and spark your creativity so that you not only go home with images to be proud of, but use your new found skills to improve and expand your photographic technique in general. Apart from the technical aspect of learning your camera settings and capabilities, you will learn how to turn an ordinary image into an extraordinary image by using your own creativity.

In addition, you will become knowledgeable on how to survey the landscape, utilize and approach your environment, photograph people indigenous to the region and the cultural considerations and challenges of photographing in a foreign country. Our time together will include individual and group discussions, inspiring ideas and great fun. We cannot think of a better location to express your creativity than the dynamic city of London.

Day 1 |  Buckingham Palace - Piccadilly Circus - Westminster - Big Ben

We meet at our hotel, and after some informal introductions we will head out for a pleasant day of photography. The first day of our photo adventure also takes us to London's old world charms. We begin by visiting Buckingham Palace and the changing of the guard. From here we will head to the famous Piccadilly Circus to capture the busy roundabout with London buses, telephone boxes, post boxes and other icons for foreground interest. Other sites we will visit include the famous Hamley’s toy store, Leicester square and Chinatown. After lunch we will continue on a wonderful day of architectural, street and fine art photography throughout the most iconic landmarks around Westminster Abbey. This area of London includes the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster bridge, the London eye and the embankment. We will capture these landmarks during the Magic Hour, as the reflections from the Houses of Parliament are mirrored on the Thames river. Afterwards we celebrate with our “Welcome Dinner” at a favorite hidden local restaurant. (D)

Day 2 |  Shoreditch - Columbia Road - Brick Lane - Tower Hamlets

Today we will explore one of London’s most exciting and diverse districts - Shoreditch. Every Sunday, Londoners head to the fabulous flower market at Columbia Road in East London. As well as the awesome color displays and interesting faces, we will enjoy hearing Cockney accents shouting out to buy their produce. It is impossible to walk through this market without smiling. Spitalfields market is famous and more than just a market. We’ll find antique stores, food traders, independent fashion houses and much more is on offer here. The market lies close to Brick Lane which has changed dramatically over the last 15 years. These sites are located within Tower Hamlets which is one of the most culturally diverse in Europe. Street photography will play a big part in our day, though there is so much more to capture with your camera.

After lunch discuss PWA’s “10 Guiding Principles to Great Photography” as well as our “THE ART OF SEEING” photographic technique. The evening will include some fabulous low-light photography during the Blue Hour at sites such as the Lloyds Building, Gurkin Building, as well as other modern structures. (B)

Day 3 |  Trafalgar Square - Covent Garden - Tower Bridge

Today we focus on some of the stunning architecture that London is renowned for. After a visit to Trafalgar Square, we will head to Covent Garden which has been a local favorite for shopper's wanting to walk around a more relaxed atmosphere. Here you will find the charming shop fronts and colorful houses at Neal's Yard. Covent Garden is a personal favorite for it's great cuisine, so will be an ideal place to stop for lunch. From Covent Garden we will head to the British museum. This fabulous museum is not only an architectural photographer's dream - the British museum also houses some of the rarest works of man from prehistoric to modern times from around the world. This site houses the Loretta stone and mummies from ancient Egypt. Later in the afternoon we will search for good compositions at the famous Tower Bridge. No visit to London would be complete without photographing this landmark, overlooking the river Thames. It's 900 year old history includes being used as a Royal Palace, prison and place of execution! In the evening we will have a mid-week review of our favorite images taken so far through a group critique. This will help you in learning which images stand out and why, and we will discuss some editing techniques to further improve on the final image. (B)

Day 4 |  Hampstead - Camden Town

After breakfast, we will visit the beautiful neighborhood of Hampstead with it's curved lanes, independent shops and beautiful wooded parks. From Hampstead heath we will arrive to Camden town, which is one of the best places for street photography in London. Here you will find punks, rockers, hippies, mods and every other cult known to man! Camden is all about it's incredible diversity - all located around the picturesque canal that runs through it. We will spend the day here enjoying a diverse range of subjects to photograph: Architecture, street photography, environmental portraits and more. No visit to London would be complete with sampling the most loved meal by the British - fish and chips! Here we will enjoy lunch at one or favorite restaurants, before continuing to photograph the area. (B)

Day 5 |  Greenwich - Thames River Cruise

On day five we will head to Greenwich and the Royal museums. This area along the Thames, is known for being at the International date line. The Cutty Sark, Greenwich Market, 02 Arena, National Maritime Museum and Royal observatory are all located here. Greenwich park was the site used for equestrian events at the 2012 London Olympics. From Greenwich we will hop on a boat, and take a city cruise along the river Thames. This is a great way to see the London Eye, Shakespeare Globe, Tower of London, St. Paul's Cathedral and Tower Bridge from a great perspective. From here we will head the Square mile, the heart of London's financial district. This is a great site for photographers wanting to experience the rat race of businessmen in pin-striped suits, London taxi's and the famous buildings dotted around the area. In the evening, we’ll celebrate our “Farewell Dinner” at one of our favorite London restaurants. We’ll enjoy great fun and laughter as we discuss all the highlights of the trip. (B) (D)

Day 6 |  London

On the last day of our adventure we will meet for breakfast, discuss our favorite images taken throughout the week, checkout, exchange contact info, and bid you farewell. We urge you to extend your stay in London or elsewhere in the UK and make good use of everything you will learn on our photo adventure. (B)

Day 1 |  London - Cotswolds - Bourton-on-the-Water - Blockley

We depart London and head to the beautiful region of the Cotswolds. Located approx. two hours drive west of London, this rural area is considered to be one of the U.K’s most stunning areas of natural beauty. Upon reaching the Cotswolds, we will check in to our hotel before enjoying a great day of visiting the quaint and unspoilt villages, towns and areas of natural beauty. Rivers running through villages of honey-colored stone, market towns, castles, country mansions and stunning natural scenery await us. Today we will visit quaint cottages, grand manors, pretty tree-lined streams and the rolling hills of the Cotswolds. Starting in the town of Stow-on-the Wold, the unspoiled limestone cottages, mill and woodland of the oddly-named Upper Slaughter & Lower Slaughter, before we enjoy lunch in a quintessential English pub. Also included in today’s itinerary is the town of Bourton-on-the-Water, known locally as the little Venice of the Cotswolds. In the afternoon we will photograph the beautiful woodlands and town centre of Blockley, before returning to our hotel in the evening. (B)

Day 2 |  Cotswolds - Birbury - Castle Combe - Lacock

We are up early for a sunrise shoot of this magnificent landscape that surrounds us. After we return to our hotel and a wonderful breakfast, we head out to enjoy more of the area’s wonders. Heading south, we will reach the charming and typical Cotswold village of Birbury. Lining the banks of the River Coln, the stone buildings are beautifully set in an idyllic rural background. Continuing south takes us to the magical village of Castle Combe. Widely accepted as the prettiest village in England, Castle Combe has found international fame due it’s backdrop for the film industry - Doctor Dolittle and Spielberg’s War Horse are to name but a few. From Castle Combe, we will arrive to the village of Lacock. Likewise, this quaint village that dates back to the 13th century also has it’s share of fame. Movies such as Pride and Prejudice, and recent Harry Potter movies have also been shot at this location. We will also visit the Lacock Abbey, that was converted into a fine country house, before a visit to the Fox Talbot Museum - a museum that commemorates the achievements of former resident, William Henry Fox Talbot - inventor of the positive/negative photographic media. In the evening, we’ll celebrate our “Farewell Dinner” at a stunning countryside Inn. We’ll enjoy great fun and laughter as we discuss all the highlights of the trip. (B)

Day 3 |  Cotswolds - London

In the morning, we will go through our best images taken in the Cotswolds, discuss the past week and exchange contact information, before returning to London, where sadly, we will bid you farewell. (B)
