Eastern Cuba – Santiago de Cuba, Baracoa, Cayo Granma, and Guantanamo
Join us on January 15-23, 2024 as we explore Eastern Cuba again. It’s been difficult for anyone to reach eastern Cuba since new regulations were implemented in 2019 and flights from the United States to Eastern Cuba ended. Those flights have now been reinstated, so we are good to go.
Michael Chinnici, PWA photographer leader and author of Vanishing Cuba, who’s no stranger to eastern Cuba, will bring a small group of just 6-8 guests. We’ll be exploring Santiago de Cuba (Cuba’s second biggest city and home to the start of both Cuban Revolutions), Baracoa (the remote storybook coastal village where Christopher Columbus landed and claimed Cuba for Spain), Cayo Granma (the magical island located in Santiago harbor), and Guantanamo (home of the controversial U.S. Navy base). We’ll also visit numerous hidden gems and enjoy great authentic Cuban food.
Eastern Cuba is very different from Havana and many of the cities in western Cuba. Eastern Cuba is not to be missed!
