Experience Guatemala’s 500 year old festival with PWA Photographers Edgar Monzon and Michael Chinnici

We are pleased to announce the Guatemala Semana Santa photography adventure tour with Michael Chinnici and Guatemala-based PWA photographer Edgar Monzon in the 2021 and 2022 seasons.

This 8-day photography tour of Guatemala’s most important religious festivals will provide preferred access to many processions, along with environmental portrait sessions of the local Mayan people, and the landscapes around them.

The Spanish tradition of Semana Santa (Holy Week) arrived with the Spaniards in 1524. Almost 500 years later, Antigua, Guatemala holds one of the most elaborate and colorful Semana Santa celebrations in the world. Holy Week is the week leading up to Easter Sunday, commemorating the passion, crucifixion, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Our festival adventure brings us to Antigua, Chimaltenango, and Monterrico. The former capital city of Antigua boasts an impressive catalog of colonial relics in a magnificent setting. Chimaltenango is a small nearby Mayan village with Mayan locals, and Monterrico is on the pacific coast, giving us access to locals living along the coast.

Born in Guatemala, Edgar Monzon began his professional photography career more than 15 years ago when he became fascinated with digital photography after being certified as a master in photoshop and digital postproduction. Along with his camera, he has visited more than 40 countries on all 7 continents. He considers photographing people his true love, especially capturing environmental portraits.

In 2021, this photography adventure tour will take place March 28 – April 4, led by Michael Chinnici. In 2022, it will take place April 10-17 and led by Edgar Monzon.
