We met Kelly during our Banff and Lake Louise Adventure in June of 2017. And she couldn’t have been more enthusiastic. Kelly lives in Florida and has the enviable ability to capture beautiful beaches and sunsets all year round. When she joined is in Canada’s Rocky Mountains, she was in awe of the spectacular mountain landscapes we encountered every day. Her energy and drive to photograph the lakes and peaks around us set the pace for everyone else in the group. When our hikes involved long climbs up mountain trails and through seemingly impassable creeks, Kelly was always ready for the challenge. Above all, Kelly was eager to learn new skills and techniques to help her grow as a photographer. We really enjoyed having her with us, as much as we enjoy her images of Banff National Park. This photo was taken at sunrise at Lake Vermillion in Banff, and is my favorite image of the entire trip. I love the composition of the mountains and the stillness of the lake in the early hours. The colors were morphing so beautifully minute by minute. It is truly a scene of peace and contentment. (see more photos below).
ABOUT KELLY
While I grew up in Oklahoma and spent much of my adult years in Pennsylvania raising my family and my career, I now live in the beautiful Tampa Bay area, where the photographic opportunities are endless and the sunsets never get old! My passions are photography, food, wine, friends, family, my pup, and travel. Combining them all puts me on cloud nine! After spending my career in healthcare information technology, I was blessed to be able to retire in December of 2016 and now enjoy life on my terms.
A CONVERSATION WITH KELLY
Why did you choose Photo Workshop Adventures?
I found PWA by a random internet search, and the locations and testimonials convinced me that this the way I want to travel and photograph. The small group size was ideal, as I wanted to get the most out of my trip and wasn’t looking for a large crowd.
What did you enjoy most about the adventure?
The scenery in the Canadian Rockies was amazing! Our instructor knew the area so well and made the trip unforgettable. Again, the small group size was a huge advantage in being able to truly learn, advance my skills, and enjoy the company of other photographers. The lodging, meals, and attention to detail that PWA puts into the itineraries is second to none.
What do you enjoy most about photography?
After spending so many years in the corporate world, I was looking for something to open up my right brain, and after 3 years of photography, I am more convinced than ever this was the right way to do just that. I see the world differently now and notice things around me in ways I never would. I can also go anywhere alone with just my camera, and feel content.
What are your goals and ambitions as a photographer?
I would love to be able to combine travel and photography as a means to inspire others, but am happy to continue growing my skills and seeing the other places in the world.
