ASHLEIGH WALTER

PHOTOGRAPHY ENTHUSIAST

Qatar

Ashleigh brightened our days on Santorini with her enthusiasm and thirst to learn more. With only 2 years under her belt, Ashleigh has made great progress as a student of photography. Considering all there is to learn (and explore), Ashleigh is well on her way to becoming an accomplished photographer in her own right. One of the hardest things to master is the art of composition, and she is a natural at it. Whether you are surveying the landscape (or a room), where you decide to take the photo and what vantage point you choose, can lead to a better and more interesting composition. As Ashleigh has noted below in her interview, “A scene as simple as this really captures the essence of being in Santorini.” When a you approach a potential image with this attitude, you are more than likely to capture the “essence” of where you are. Good job Ashleigh!

Just look at all this beauty captured in the photo above! This is exactly why I wanted to go to Santorini. No matter where you look there is always something gorgeous to see. It was the perfect setting for my first photo workshop. I’m still learning so it was great to have our leader Laurie’s input as we went along. He made me notice things that I would have missed and turned out for some amazing photos. I learned some great tips that have helped me improve my photography.  (see more photos below)

ABOUT ASHLEIGH

I’m from the United states but I have been living abroad for about 4 and a half years now. In 2010 I moved to Hungary and am currently residing in Doha, Qatar where I work as a model. My love for travel sparked my interest in photography. Two years ago I got my first DSLR camera and begun my first photography course. Ever since then I have been trying to learn as much as I can about photography and taking photos everywhere I go!

A CONVERSATION WITH ASHLEIGH

Why did you choose Photo Workshop Adventures?

I had been wanting to take a photography workshop for a while and when I found PWA’s website I knew this was the choice for me. I wanted to combine my love for travel and photography together and there are so many amazing countries to choose from with PWA. For years I had been dreaming about visiting Santorini and when I saw this was an option with PWA I knew right then I had to go for it!

What did you enjoy most about the adventure?

I loved every single moment of this adventure. It was great going with other people interested in photography. If you travel with someone who is not into taking photos they can get a bit annoyed with you stopping at every corner to take a photo. It was so nice to be able to combine my desire to learn about taking photos and being on an amazing trip at the same time. I feel like I got to experience everything I wanted and more by joining this Santorini Photo Adventure.

What do you enjoy most about photography?

Photography has changed the way I see the world. I love being able to capture all the things I find beautiful. You can really study all the details and colors in a photo that you may overlook while viewing in person. Its so nice to capture a simple moment and turn it into something beautiful. For example, photographing a man in Santorini preparing his boats to go out fishing. A scene as simple as this really captures the essence of being in Santorini, even more than the gorgeous scenery. This is why I love photography. It gives others a chance to view the world through your eyes.

What are your goals and ambitions as a photographer?

I want to keep taking lots of photos and improve along the way. I want to learn as much as I can and see where it takes me. I would love to make a career out of it because its something I love to do and who doesn’t want a job doing something they love! Excited to keep learning and take more photos!
