ITINERARY

CENTRAL VIETNAM 9 DAYS

Day 1 | Hanoi

We meet at our hotel in Hanoi for breakfast, and will begin our tour with an orientation walk through Hanoi’s charming streets. Capture the city’s vibrant street life, architecture, and the hustle and bustle of the Old Quarter. Here time seems to stand still and there’s a photo opportunity waiting at each corner. It’s a great way to start our journey into the cultural photo adventure of Vietnam. After lunch, we will proceed to the Temple of Literature. Here we will photograph a beautiful Vietnamese model dressed in the traditional áo dài dress. We will end our day with our special Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant. Here, we will also have informal discussions about what our guests are trying to achieve in their photography, subject matters, styles, and techniques. (D)

Day 2 | Hanoi: Markets and City Life Hotel Hanoi

We start our day early with a visit to Hanoi’s bustling Long Bien market. Here we will capture the colors and energy of the local vendors, shoppers, and their wares. After breakfast, we will walk around the Hoan Kiem Lake and look for photo opportunities. We then proceed to the famed train street to coincide with the passing of a train along the narrow street lined with cafes and residential homes. This is an experience that cannot be missed, both for photographs and for the unique sight we witness here. After lunch, we will visit the famous soya village of Bán Yên Nhân, where we will see how Soy sauce is made. It is said that the soy sauce here is very delicious compared to other regions. The tradition and technique have been passed down through the generations, with families retaining their uniqueness. The soy is stored in large earthen jars in an open courtyard and is inspected from time to time by the workers. (B)

Day 3 | Hanoi - Ninh Binh

We will be tourists for a day with a day-long trip to Ninh Binh, often referred to as “Halong Bay on Land.” The picturesque landscape is going to leave you spellbound. It’s going to be a day full of fun, with riverboat ride and cave exploration. We will also get to photograph of the rice fields of Vietnam. We return back to Hanoi after a long day. (B)

Day 4 | Hanoi - Quang Phu Cau Village - The Sy

After an early/packed breakfast, we will check out and drive to Quang the “incense village of Vietnam”. Families in this village have been making incense for more than a century. We will photograph a workshop that has built steel balconies around its premises so that photographers can climb up and take the top shots, which this place is famous for. We will venture further into the village to capture some unique sights of this process of incense making. Here we can see small families, elderly couples, and cousins, sitting together in their courtyard and working on various stages of incense sticks. We will proceed further to the tiny village of The Sy, which specializes in the age-old tradition of making bamboo fish traps. A fish trap is a traditional fishing tool of farmers, mostly in the northern plains of Vietnam. It is shaped like a cylinder with tapering ends and has a small opening with a lid. It takes a skilled weaver about an hour to complete a fish trap. The trap is then fumigated above a stove to make it more durable. Made by skilled locals, fish traps are sent to northern provinces and cities and exported to some other countries. (B)

Later there will be a model photoshoot in Hoi An’s beautifully preserved Old Town in the evening (Setup). Capture the town’s lantern-lit streets and bridges. Lanterns are lit every night on the streets and mostly along the river. They’re believed to bring good fortune and add to the unique charm of Hoi An. Later, we will capture candid moments by the river during the serene blue hour. We end our day with a Farewell Dinner at one of our favourite restaurants in Hoi An. (B, D)
