Capture breathtaking and untouched Patagonia from both Argentina and Chile.

Patagonia Photo Adventure Vacations – Inspire, Create and Learn.

Patagonia is a region in the south of Argentina bordered in the north by the Cuyo and Pampas regions, in the east by the Atlantic Ocean and in the south and west by Chile. It occupies roughly 490,000 square miles. Patagonia is a windswept frontier bequeathed with the earth's few remaining glaciers. Patagonia is famous for being a magnet for wanderers. It has an almost other worldly feel, from the colors embedded in the landscape... teal, mauve, mahogany, periwinkle, azure and lavender - to the effect it has on the imagination.

You will discover some of the most remarkable landscapes in Patagonia. Prepare to be amazed at unbelievable glaciers, rugged mountain peaks and crazy dramatic skies. Since Darwin visited this land in the mid 1800’s, Patagonia has become a dreamer’s destination for adventurers and settlers. Patagonia will capture your senses and amaze you. At times, you will put down your camera and just take the drama in. We will most definitely cover all the iconic locations for photography at the right times of day with the best light, but we will also enjoy the culture of the region. Our guide has traveled the region countless times, and will discuss it’s history and idiosyncrasies. Patagonia is famous for it’s great food as well, and we will enjoy the finest local meals.

This adventure is designed not only to guide you to the most photogenic locations carefully planned for the best light, but to aid you in mentally visualizing a scene before capturing the decisive moment. Our aim is to raise your awareness and spark your creativity so that you not only go home with images to be proud of, but use your new found skills to improve and expand your photographic technique in general. Apart from the technical aspect of learning your camera settings and capabilities, you will learn how to turn an ordinary image into an extraordinary image by using your own creativity.

In addition, you will become knowledgeable on how to survey the landscape, utilize and approach your environment, photograph people indigenous to the region and the cultural considerations and challenges of photographing in a foreign country. Our time together will include individual and group discussions, inspiring ideas and great fun. We cannot think of a better location to express your creativity than in Patagonia!

Sunday (1)  El Calafate

Our adventure beings on Sunday at our hotel in El Calafate and back. In the early evening we will have a meet and greet with our group leader and guide, and then celebrate with our “Welcome Dinner” at one of the many great restaurants in El Calafate. (D)

Monday (2)  Perito Moreno Glacier

We are up early on Monday to photograph Perito Moreno Glacier in Los Glaciares National Park, declared a “World Heritage" site by UNESCO in 1981. This spectacular glacier is one of the very few glaciers in the world that still advances. Its massive front wall will most likely make you put down your camera in awe. There are several different views we will explore, ranging from details of the ice to the grand view spanning the 3.5 miles of its front wall. Its frequent calving, one of the trademarks of the glacier is a little “extra” that the glacier offers its visitors frequently and one of the best features of the day. (B)

Tuesday (3)  El Chalten

Today, we depart towards El Chalten, through Patagonian steppe. The 3 hour drive through the steppe to this charming little mountain town of just a couple thousand people is very interesting. We will likely see Guanacos and Nandues (a south American ostrich) on the way. As we approach El Chalten, we will view (weather permitting) the magnificent Fitz Roy massif in all its rugged glory. We will make stops on the way to start getting used to our main subject for the next 3 days. (B)

Wednesday (4)  El Chalten - Fitz Roy

We will spend 3 full days in the area, shooting the Fitz Roy, the Cerro Torre, and the rest of the peaks in this massif. The best light to shoot is the early morning, where the light turns the granite red-orange. We will explore different locations for sunrise. After breakfast back in town, we can walk different easy trails that start right at the edge of the town, exploring different views and angles of the mountains, but also enjoy and photograph unpolluted forests and streams. The town itself is very picturesque and definitely worth the time to explore. Despite its size, the town is full of great little restaurants, so good food is guaranteed! (B)

Thursday (5)  El Chalten - Fitz Roy

See Day 4 (Wednesday) for details. Since we will be spending 3 days in El Chalten and Ftiz Roy, the exact order which which we explore will be determined based on weather and other factors. (B)

Friday (6)  El Chalten - Fitz Roy

See Day 4 (Wednesday) for details. Since we will be spending 3 days in El Chalten and Ftiz Roy, the exact order which which we explore will be determined based on weather and other factors. (B)

Saturday (7)  Torres del Paine - Chile

On Saturday we depart early for Torres del Paine National Park in Chile. We will drive through Patagonian steppe (lunch en route) crossing the border to Chile. This is a long driving day with different views as we move south towards Chile’s incredibly pretty Torres del Paine. (B)

Sunday (8)  Laguna Amarga - Cascada Paine

We will spend the next 3 full days visiting the park, including Laguna Amarga, Cascada Paine, Salto Grande, Grey Glacier, Lake Pehoe, Lake Nordenskjold. Torres del Paine is arguably the prettiest park in Patagonia. Our hotel’s amazing location in the middle of Lake Pehoe’s turquoise waters, with the rugged Paine’s Horns unobstructed views makes it the perfect place to set base during our stay. We will shoot from excellent locations, with the best light. There are so many places to shoot and the park is so incredibly beautiful that our three days will certainly feel not enough. From walks through forests, to icebergs, to turquoise colored waters, to rugged mountains, to guanacos, condors, and flamingos, Torres del Paine has it all! (B)

Monday (9)  Grey Glacier - Salto Grande

See Day 8 (Sunday) for details. Since we will be spending 3 days in Torres del Paine National Park, the exact order which which we explore will be determined based on weather and other factors. (B)

Tuesday (10)  Lake Pehoe - Lake Nordenskjold

See Day 8 (Sunday) for details. Since we will be spending 3 days in Torres del Paine National Park, the exact order which which we explore will be determined based on weather and other factors. (B)

Wednesday (11)  Torres del Paine - El Calafate

After sunrise and breakfast, we drive back to El Calafate for our last night in Patagonia. In the evening we will celebrate with our wonderful “Farewell Dinner”, with great fun and laughter as we discuss all the highlights of the trip. (B) (D)

Thursday (12)  El Calafate
