ITINERARY

NEW YORK 6 DAYS

Day 1 | Chelsea - Soho - West Village

We meet in the morning at our hotel in midtown Manhattan, where we’ll start by discussing PWA’s “10 Guiding Principles to Great Photography” as well as our “THE ART OF SEEING” photographic technique. During a group lunch, we will have informal discussions on what our guests are trying to achieve in their photography, subject matters, styles, and techniques.

From here we will set out for an exciting day of photography throughout the iconic turn of the century neighborhoods of Soho, the West Village, and Chelsea. Here we will find everything from brownstones, to warehouses and modern skyscrapers. These are some of the most sought after neighborhoods in New York, mainly because of their character and style.

In the evening we celebrate with our “Welcome Dinner” at one of our favorite NYC haunts. (D)

Day 2 | Financial District - Brooklyn Bridge - Times Square

On day two we spend the day exploring lower Manhattan, the oldest part of the city. Although New York was discovered by the French in 1524, it was first claimed by the Dutch in 1609. We’ll explore and photograph original architecture dating back to the 1600s and 1700s. After lunch, we’ll travel by ferry to Brooklyn’s DUMBO neighborhood and walk the Brooklyn Bridge back to Manhattan and then off to explore Chinatown. Later in the evening, we will photograph Times Square at night in all its lighted glory. (B)

Day 3 | Grand Central Station - Harlem - Upper West Side

On day three we take the subway through the world-famous Grand Central Station and up to Harlem and capture the flavors of this diverse and changing community. Enjoy lunch at our favorite soul food restaurant, and focus on urban street photography. Afterward, we head west to the Upper West Side to photograph some of the most beautiful architecture in New York. (B)

Day 4 | Tribeca - Soho - Chinatown - Greenwich Village

We take the subway to ground zero and visit the new World Trade Center complex including the memorial, the Oculus, and more. The already iconic $4 billion Oculus subway station, designed by Santiago Calatrava, consists of two striking sets of white ribs.

The National 911 Memorial & Museum is a memorial and museum in New York City commemorating the September 11, 2001 attacks, which killed 2,977 people, and the 1993 World Trade Center bombing, which killed six. Afterwards, we will concentrate on the colorful neighborhoods that lie to the north including Tribeca, Soho, Greenwich Village, the West Village, Chelsea and the Meatpacking District. (B)

Day 5 | Greenpoint - Williamsburg - Red Hook

On Day five we discover Manhattan by sea, using our all-day ferry pass to explore the many neighborhoods that surround the island of Manhattan. We’ll visit and photograph the neighborhoods of Greenpoint, Williamsburg and Red Hook, Brooklyn, and then hop over to the Hudson River where we’ll visit Hoboken, New Jersey and the Statue of Liberty. Photographing from the water will give us opportunities for many unique and beautiful photos.

In the evening, we’ll celebrate our “Farewell Dinner” at one of our favorite NYC Restaurants, a very special and hidden Italian gem in lower Manhattan. We’ll enjoy great fun and laughter as we discuss all the highlights of the trip. (B) (D)

Day 6 | Chelsea

On our last day, we set out to photograph Chelsea at sunrise as the city is awakening. Upon our return to our hotel, we enjoy breakfast and our final group discussion, review our past week’s photos, trade contact information and bid you farewell.

We urge you to extend your stay in New York and make good use of everything you will learn on our photo adventure.
