DC Cherry Blossoms

Gardens, Monuments, Memorials, Capitol Building and more

Enjoy the splendor of early spring with D.C.’s world-famous cherry blossoms.

Washington DC Photo Adventure Vacations – Inspire, Create and Learn.

Once March rolls around, most of us are tired of winter weather. Months of cold air, snow, ice, and short days wear us down. We long for the rebirth of spring and the return of life and warmth.

Enter the cherry blossoms. These trees, a gift from Japan to Washington, D.C. in the early 20th century, are one of the first to blossom to announce the arrival of spring. Blooming in troves of white and pink, these “Yoshino” cherry blossom trees present a surreal and drop-dead gorgeous scene all around our Nation’s Capital.

Witnessing these majestic, blooming trees amongst iconic landmarks such as the Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial, Martin Luther King Memorial, and White House is something everyone, young and old, should experience at least once in their lives. There may not be a more beautiful time or place on earth to enjoy both nature and historically important architecture.

This adventure is designed not only to guide you to the most photogenic locations carefully planned for the best light, but also to aid you in mentally visualizing a scene before capturing the decisive moment. Our aim is to raise your awareness and spark your creativity so that you not only go home with images to be proud of, but use your new found skills to improve and expand your photographic technique in general. Apart from the technical aspect of learning your camera settings and capabilities, you will learn how to turn an ordinary image into an extraordinary image by using your own creativity.

In addition, you will become knowledgeable on how to survey the landscape, utilize and approach your environment, and photograph people and events within the city. Our time together will include individual and group discussions, inspiring ideas and great fun. We cannot think of a better location to express your creativity than during the spring bloom of cherry blossoms in the nations capital, Washington, D.C.

**Since it is impossible to predict the exact dates of the cherry blossom bloom, or how long the bloom will last, we cannot guarantee the blossoms. If we miss the bloom, we will still enjoy photographing the beautiful and amazing city of Washington D.C.

Day 1 | Tidal Basin - Washington D.C. - Jefferson Memorial

After meeting at our hotel, we head to the Tidal Basin, the most iconic location where cherry trees line the edges of the water beneath towering monuments. After spending the afternoon observing the people and environment, we will focus on capturing the sunset overlooking the Jefferson Memorial.  After we celebrate with our “Welcome Dinner” at a favorite DC restaurant. (D)

Day 2 | Washington Monument - FDR and MLK Memorials

Day two begins before dawn, when we will return to the Tidal Basin to shoot the sunrise at the Washington Monument. We will experiment with long exposures to soften reflections in the water and add mood to our images. As the sun rises, we will continue exploring the Tidal Basin area, including visiting the Franklin Delano Roosevelt memorial and fountains. After lunch, we will continue exploring this expansive area and end by shooting the sunset at the Martin Luther King Memorial. (B)

Day 3 | White House - National Cathedral - National Arboretum

Today we begin to explore other areas where cherry blossoms and other early spring trees, such as the redbud tree, are blooming. We will capture these majestic trees at the White House at sunrise along with the famous bronze statue of Andrew Jackson. After lunch, we will visit other well known areas including the National Cathedral and National Arboretum, where beautiful trees adorn the Old Capitol Columns. After a long day, we head back to our hotel and end the evening with a wonderful “Farewell Dinner.” remembering all the great experiences throughout the week. (B) (D)

Day 4 | Arlington Cemetery - Military Memorials

On day four we will travel across the river to Arlington, where we capture nature in one of the most lush areas near the city, the Arlington Cemetery. We will continue exploring the rolling grounds of the cemetery as well as other Arlington locations such as the Iwo Jima Memorial, Air Force Memorial, and the Navy-Merchant Marine Memorial. By late morning we return to our hotel and bid you farewell. (B)
