Rome, the Eternal City. And home to 49 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Rome Photo Adventure Vacations – Inspire, Create and Learn.

Legend holds that Romulus and Remus founded Rome in 753 B.C. – the mythical image of the two brothers suckled by the she-wolf, other than the Colosseum, has become the iconographic symbol for the great city. Rome is the capital city of Italy and whether you are there for 3 days, 3 weeks or 3 months, be prepared to step into the world's biggest open-air museum. Rome is also home to 49 UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Rome is endowed with an incomparable combination of color and light, monuments and sculptures that have defined the history of art. Rome will seduce you, and for a photographer, the effect is magical. Here you'll walk the same streets that Caesar once walked, set foot in the smallest independent nation on earth, and see the masterpieces of some of the world's greatest artists. Then you can turn a corner to see how modern Romans live alongside all that historical splendor. Rome is home to many iconic sights including the Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, the Colosseum, the Roman Forum and countless others. Historic monuments exist among modern buildings and create an enchanting and contrasting destination. Food is also an integral part of the culture in Rome and time spent enjoying the wonderful cuisine as well as their delicious wines is a must on any adventure to Rome!

This adventure is designed not only to guide you to the most photogenic locations carefully planned for the best light, but to aid you in mentally visualizing a scene before capturing the decisive moment. Our aim is to raise your awareness and spark your creativity so that you not only go home with images to be proud of, but use your new found skills to improve and expand your photographic technique in general. Apart from the technical aspect of learning your camera settings and capabilities, you will learn how to turn an ordinary image into an extraordinary image by using your own creativity.

In addition, you will become knowledgeable on how to survey the landscape, utilize and approach your environment, photograph people indigenous to the region and the cultural considerations and challenges of photographing in a foreign country. Our time together will include individual and group discussions, inspiring ideas and great fun. We cannot think of a better location to express your creativity than the historical city of Roma!

Sunday (1)  St Peter’s Square - Vatican - St. Peter's Basilica

We meet on Sunday morning at one of Rome's grand 4-star hotels, where we will discuss PWA's "10 Guiding Principles of Photography" and our "THE ART OF SEEING" photographic technique. During a group lunch we will have informal discussions on what our guests are trying to achieve in their photography, subject matters, styles  and techniques. From here we will set out for a pleasant day of photography throughout this spectacular city. We begin amid the breathtaking sweep of St. Peter's Square. Discover fresh ways to photograph the iconic basilica and then explore the Vatican neighborhood with camera in hand. Next, stroll the picturesque Via dei Coronari, a pedestrian street lined with antique shops that follows the path of an ancient Roman road. In the evening we celebrate with our "Welcome Dinner" at one of our favorite Italian restaurants. (D)

Monday (2)  Trastevere - Spanish Steps - Pantheon - Colosseum

On day two we set out early into the ancient neighborhood of Trastevere for a visit to the open-air market of Porta Portese as well as the exquisite Church of Santa Maria di Trastevere. This is a veritable feast of color and texture. You'll shoot images of locals haggling with merchants over tables of antiques and vintage items. We share a leisurely lunch before venturing into the city center of Piazza di Spagna and the Spanish Steps. The 18th century steps cascade down from the Trinita dei Monti church. Later we photograph the Pantheon and it's remarkable architecture as well as the Trevi Fountain, which is the largest Baroque fountain in the city. Before dinner we head to the Colosseum for a photoshoot in the rich hues of twilight. (B)

Tuesday (3)  Roman Ghetto - Theatre of Marcellus - Roman Forum

On Tuesday we begin at the site of Rome's Jewish ghetto, better known as the Roman Ghetto. it was established in 1555 on the banks of the Tiber river and dismantled in 1870, following Italy's unification. Original facades still stand and you can photograph the Great Synagogue of Rome. We then photograph the ruins of Theatre of Marcellus-an open-air theater completed in 13 BC. We’ll take an afternoon break and go over our images to date. In the late afternoon we set out to photograph the Roman Forum into the twilight hours. (B)

Wednesday (4)  Capitoline Hill - Tiber River Walk

On day four we head up to Capitoline Hill, an early Roman citadel that was largely redesigned by Michelangelo. We climb the grand steps to photograph the symmetry of the Piazza del Campidoglio as well as the elegant buildings that house the Capitoline Museum-all were built based on Michelangelo's sketches. We'll take in excellent views of the Roman Forum and then visit the museums to see a rich collection of classical statues and Renaissance art. In the late afternoon light we venture down the Tiber River for beautiful photos of St. Peter’s Basilica in the background. (B)

Thursday (5)  Trevi Fountain - Museum Walk - Trastevere

Early on Thursday morning we head to the Trevi Fountain to capture the fountain before the tourists get there. Armed with our tripods we will shoot long exposure images of this beautiful masterpiece. In the late morning we review our images back at the hotel and break for lunch. In the afternoon, you have free time or you can join the group as we visit a museum or two. In the late afternoon we return to our hotel where we will rest and prepare for our wonderful “Farewell Dinner, with great fun and laughter as we discuss all the highlights of the trip. (B) (D)
