PHOTOGRAPHY ADVENTURE VACATIONS

Scotland

Edinbrugh, Inverness, Moray Coastline, Scottish Highlands

Stunning landscapes and a colorful history await you.

Scotland Photo Adventure Vacations – Inspire, Create and Learn.

Scotland is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. Occupying the northern third of the island of Great Britain, it shares a border with England to the south and is bounded by the North Sea to the east, and the Atlantic Ocean to the north and west. Scotland is world famous for its awesome scenery, vibrant culture and spectacular heritage. In Scotland you'll find a country that is a fantastic mix of stunning landscapes, wildlife and wonderful local produce, combined with a thriving arts and cultural scene, topped off with a colorful history of epic battles and historic castles. You'll see the  dramatic views and rolling hills of the Scottish Highlands, as well as the capital city of Edinburgh - from the heart of the historic Old Town to the waterfront at Leith. You'll be privy to sights so unforgettable that you'll return home from your tour with images you'll be proud of and excited by, as well as happy memories of your fantastic trip!

This adventure is designed not only to guide you to the most photogenic locations carefully planned for the best light, but to aid you in mentally visualizing a scene before capturing the decisive moment. Our aim is to raise your awareness and spark your creativity so that you not only go home with images to be proud of, but use your new found skills to improve and expand your photographic technique in general. Apart from the technical aspect of learning your camera settings and capabilities, you will learn how to turn an ordinary image into an extraordinary image by using your own creativity.

In addition, you will become knowledgeable on how to survey the landscape, utilize and approach your environment, photograph people indigenous to the region and the cultural considerations and challenges of photographing in a foreign country. Our week together will include individual and group discussions, inspiring ideas and great fun. We cannot think of a better location to express your creativity than Edinburgh and the Scottish Highlands.

SCOTLAND 6 DAYS

Sunday (1)  Edinburgh

On Sunday morning, after checking into our hotel, we begin by discussing PWA’s “10 Guiding Principles of Photography” as well as our “THE ART OF SEEING” photographic technique. Followed by lunch and informal discussions on what our guests are trying to achieve in their photography, subject matters, styles and techniques. After lunch we begin our photo walk and wander the charming streets to see the many sites and shops of Edinburgh's New Town. Passing through the popular Princes Street, we will walk around the West End and maybe stop in for a quick snack or coffee where J.K. Rawling first thought up the idea for Harry Potter. On the way back to the hotel, there is an optional walk up to the Scott Monument, just a 200ft climb for views of the city. In the evening we celebrate with our “Welcome Dinner” at one of the local Scottish restaurants. (D)

Monday (2)  Edinburgh Castle - Old Town

On Monday, we will set out to explore the Edinburgh Castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We'll spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the Old Town by walking the Royal Mile, and have lunch at one of the many restaurants in the town. There are tons of historical sites to see in this cobblestone-filled village, including local markets, colorful houses, an old graveyard, cathedrals, and even a nice lookout point for great views of the Edinburgh Castle. After this day of exploring Edinburgh, we'll find a nice place for dinner to end the day. (B)

Tuesday (3)  Inverness

First thing in the morning, we depart for the Scottish Highlands to our home base for the next three nights— Inverness. If time permits, along the way we can stop to see the Linlithgow Palace. Inverness and its neighboring islands and villages are filled with some of Scotland’s most beautiful, picturesque landscapes and wildlife. We will stop for a quick lunch after settling into the hotel, and then we are off to explore the charming town of Inverness and the Black Isle. After a day of exploring, we will enjoy a group dinner in town. (B)

Wednesday (4)  Moray Coastline

For the early risers, we offer a spectacular sunrise shoot at the Chanonry Point Lighthouse, just 30 minutes away. If we’re lucky, dolphins are known to frequent this area. On the way back to meet the group, we’ll stop at the Fairy Glen waterfalls, where we will learn about photographing moving water. After meeting back up with the group for breakfast, we will all head out west along the Moray Coast. Our first stop will be the picturesque town of Portknockie, with stunning cliffs and charming streets. We’ll begin slowly making our way back east towards Inverness, stopping along the way at Bow Fiddle Rock, Findhorn Beach, Hopeman (a small fisherman village where we can stop for lunch), and Loch Ness. Before dinner, nearby in Inverness, we will shoot the sunset falling over the surrounding mountains. (B)

Thursday (5)  Ullapool - Inverpolly - Loch Assynt - Kylesku

Our last full day in the Scottish Highlands will be spent further north (about 1-2 hours away), first visiting the quaint fishing town of Ullapool. Ullapool offers wonderful views of the Loch Broom. We will then continue on to explore the Inverpolly Nature Reserve to see glacial lochs and beautiful mountains, such as Cul Mor and Stac Pollaidh. We will venture a little further north to Loch Assynt to see the 15th century Ardvreck Castle and a beautiful waterfall along the way. The shores of Loch Assynt are filled with scenic landscapes and dramatic cliffs. Not far from the castle is the Kylesku bridge across the Loch Glendhu, which is a fantastic place to relax and take some photos before the scenic drive back to Inverness. In the evening we head out to our “Farewell Dinner”, where we will have great fun and laughter as we discuss all the highlights of the trip. (B) (D)

Friday (6)  Edinburgh

On our last morning, we will enjoy breakfast while reviewing our past week’s photos, trade contact information and bid you farewell before heading back to Edinburgh (or Glasgow depending on which airport you are departing from) for our return home. We encourage you to extend your stay in Scotland and make good use of everything you will learn on our photo adventure. (B)

May all who come as guests... leave as friends®
