Dubrovnik is Croatia’s “Pearl of the Adriatic”

Dubrovnik Croatia Photo Adventure Vacations – Inspire, Create and Learn.

Called the "Pearl of the Adriatic", Dubrovnik proudly lives up to it’s nickname. Dubrovnik is steeped in stunning architecture and sculptural detail, and boasts spectacular churches, monasteries, museums, and fountains, and is proudly a UNESCO World Heritage site. A multitude of towns and islands include: the Elaphiti Islands, the attractive town of Cavtat, the Konavle valley, Mljet Island, Korčula Island, Ston and Peljesac Peninsula.

Dubrovnik was built on maritime trade. In the Middle Ages it became the only city-state in the Adriatic to rival Venice. Supported by it’s wealth and skilled diplomacy, the city achieved a remarkable level of development during the 15th and 16th centuries. Dubrovnik was also one of the centers of the development of the Croatian language and literature, home to many notable poets, playwrights, painters, mathematicians, physicists and other scholars.

This adventure is designed not only to guide you to the most photogenic locations carefully planned for the best light, but to aid you in mentally visualizing a scene before capturing the decisive moment. Our aim is to raise your awareness and spark your creativity so that you not only go home with images to be proud of, but use your new found skills to improve and expand your photographic technique in general. Apart from the technical aspect of learning your camera settings and capabilities, you will learn how to turn an ordinary image into an extraordinary image by using your own creativity.

In addition, you will become knowledgeable on how to survey the landscape, utilize and approach your environment, photograph people indigenous to the region and the cultural considerations and challenges of photographing in a foreign country. Our time together will include individual and group discussions, inspiring ideas and great fun. We cannot think of a better location to express your creativity than the walled city of Dubrovnik.

DUBROVNIK CROATIA 6 DAYS

Sunday (1)  Dubrovnik

We meet on Sunday at our 5-Star Resort & Spa Hotel in Dubrovnik where we will discuss PWA’s “10 Guiding Principles of Photography” as well as our “THE ART OF SEEING” photographic technique. During a group lunch, we will have informal discussions on what our guests are trying to achieve in their photography, subject matters, styles and techniques. From here we will set out for a wonderful day of photography throughout this amazing walled city on the sea.  In the evening we celebrate with our “Welcome Dinner” at one of our favorite Croatian restaurants high atop the city. (D)

Monday (2)  Dubrovnik

On Monday morning we walk the walls of the city from one end to the other, offering us spectacular views of the city, the sea, the islands and the mountains that watch over this magnificent fortress. Dubrovnik has been described as a jewel encased by city walls and, beyond them, by the unbroken blue of the sea. In the afternoon we will explore the inner streets of the city, getting to know the city better. In the evening we will visit the harbor, armed with our tripods, and experiment with nighttime low-light photography. (B)

Tuesday (3)  Cavtat - Lopud - Kolocep

On Tuesday we travel north of Dubrovnik to the enchanting village of Cavtat. The city is perched on the saddle of a wooded peninsula set between two bays, so you're never more than moments from the water. The sea is as still as a mirror, a deep and brilliant blue with pools of green reflected from the pine forests beyond. A wide promenade, fringed with palm trees, runs along the harbor front. This fascinating and cultured destination in itself is an amazing place to spend the day capturing yet another image of Croatia. But wait, it gets even better... after lunch and an afternoon break, we are picked up by boat at our hotel for a private photo tour of the islands of Lopud and Kolocep. Afterward we stop at Lopud for the sunset and dinner before returning to our hotel by boat. You’ll be free to kayak on Lopud if time permits. (B)

Wednesday (4)  Mostar (Boznia)

On day four we depart early for our two hour drive into neighboring Bosnia and Herzegovina to the historic town of Mostar. Spanning a deep valley of the Neretva River, Mostar was developed in the 15th and 16th centuries as an Ottoman frontier town and during the Austro-Hungarian period in the 19th and 20th centuries. Mostar has long been known for its old Turkish houses and Old Bridge, Stari Most, after which it is named. The Old Bridge and Old City are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The Old Bridge area, with its pre-Ottoman, eastern Ottoman, Mediterranean and western European architectural features, is an outstanding example of a multicultural urban settlement. We spend the day in Mostar before returning to Croatia. (B)

Thursday (5)  Korčula

On Thursday we head by boat from Dubrovnik to the great island of Korčula. Korčula is rich in vineyards, olive groves, small villages and hamlets. The island’s dense woods led the original Greek settlers to call the island Korkyra Melaina (Black Korčula). We will visit its main settlement, Korčula Town, which is a gorgeous grid of marble streets and impressive architecture. Upon returning to Dubrovnik, we will prepare for our wonderful Croatian “Farewell Dinner”, where we will have great fun and laughter as we discuss all the highlights of the trip. (B) (D)

Friday (6)  Dubrovnik

On day six, we set out early for some street photography and then our final group discussion, review our past weeks photos, trade contact information and bid you farewell. We urge you to extend your stay in Dubrovnik or elsewhere in Croatia or Montenegro and make good use of everything you will learn on our photo adventure. (B)

May all who come as guests... leave as friends®
