Welcome to Cape Town, Mother City of South Africa.

Cape Town Photo Adventure Vacations – Inspire, Create and Learn.

Welcome to the magical and spiritual city of Cape Town and the Western Cape, an area which many regard as one of the most beautiful regions in the world. The city is a rare cultural gem, resulting from the amalgamation of Indonesian, French, Dutch, British and German settlers, the local Bushman and Hottentot tribes and the Bantu tribes from the north. The impressive presence of Table Mountain, flanked by the legendary Devil's Peak and historical Signal Hill, stands proudly above the city. Beautiful white sandy beaches along a peaceful coastline frame the Cape Peninsula, which is famed for it’s unique floral kingdom, bountiful rivers, marshlands and dams and magnificent countryside. The surrounding area extends far into the wine lands, green in summer and red-gold in autumn. The cultural diversity and breathtaking beauty make Cape Town and excellent destination for a photography workshop.

This adventure is designed not only to guide you to the most photogenic locations carefully planned for the best light, but to aid you in mentally visualizing a scene before capturing the decisive moment. Our aim is to raise your awareness and spark your creativity so that you not only go home with images to be proud of, but use your new found skills to improve and expand your photographic technique in general. Apart from the technical aspect of learning your camera settings and capabilities, you will learn how to turn an ordinary image into an extraordinary image by using your own creativity.

In addition, you will become knowledgeable on how to survey the landscape, utilize and approach your environment, photograph people indigenous to the region and the cultural considerations and challenges of photographing in a foreign country. Our week together will include individual and group discussions, inspiring ideas and great fun. We cannot think of a better location to express your creativity than the magic of Cape Town!

CAPE TOWN 6 DAYS

Sunday (1)  Cape Town

We meet on Sunday at our magnificent 5-star hotel in Cape Town where we will discuss PWA’s “10 Guiding Principles of Photography” as well as Michael’s “THE ART OF SEEING” photographic technique. During a group lunch, we will have informal discussions on what our guests are trying to achieve in their photography, subject matters, styles and techniques. From here we set out for a wonderful day of photography throughout this spectacular city. In the evening we celebrate with our “Welcome Dinner” at one of our favorite Cape Town restaurants. (D)

Monday (2)  Cape Town - Seapoint - City Bowl - Langa Township

On day two we explore several of the neighborhoods that make up Cape Town including Seapoint/Greenpoint, City Bowl, Atlantic Seaboard and Langa Township. We like to call this “Diversity Monday” because of all the ethnic and cultural diversity you will experience. The neighborhoods each have their own character, which makes for some wonderful photography. (B)

Tuesday (3)  Wine Country - Cape Town

On day three, we set out very early to capture the morning light as it peaks over the horizon and floods Table Mountain with it’s golden glow. After a morning of coastal travel, we head up into the wine country and capture vineyards in near full bloom, as it is soon approaching the late summer harvest. Here we enjoy a bountiful lunch and discuss our morning’s adventure photographing Table Mountain. We spend the afternoon photographing the wine country before heading back to our hotel at night for a well deserved rest. (B)

Wednesday (4)  Table Mountain - Cape Point - Atlantic Seaboard

On Wednesday we head out in the late morning and explore the coast leading up to Table Mountain National Park. With it’s quaint villages and colorful harbors set amongst a beautiful backdrop of nature, this area makes for many wonderful photographic opportunities. From here we head out to Cape Point with Table Mountain soaring to our right and beautiful blue waters to our left. We travel up and behind Table Mountain and then head north up the mountainous coast on our return to Cape Town. Here we are in a perfect location to photograph a beautiful Cape Town sunset and enjoy a late night dinner. (B)

Thursday (5)  Cape Town

On Thursday morning we discuss editing and workflow and review your favorite photos of the week. Then we set out for another day of Cape Town photography, it’s architecture, people, shop owners and merchants. For lunch we enjoy some South African comfort food at a traditional Cape Town restaurant. In the evening we will prepare for our wonderful “Farewell Dinner” with great fun and laughter as we discuss all the highlights of the trip. (B) (D)

Friday (6)  Cape Town

After breakfast, we review our past week’s photos, trade contact information and bid you farewell around lunchtime. We urge you to extend your stay in Cape Town or elsewhere in South Africa and make good use of everything you will learn on our photo adventure. (B)

May all who come as guests... leave as friends®
