Two of the most amazing UNESCO cities in Eastern Europe.

Budapest & Prague Photo Adventure Vacations – Inspire, Create and Learn

Our 7-Day Budapest and Prague Photo Adventure was designed to combine the very best of these two amazing and not-to-be-missed cities.

Budapest is the capital and largest city in Hungary. Budapest became a single city, occupying both banks of the River Danube, with the unification in 1873, of Buda and Obuda, on the west bank, and with Pest, on the east bank. Considered one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Budapest has extensive UNESCO World Heritage sites. They include the banks of the Danube, the Buda Castle District, Andrassy Avenue, Heroes Square and the Millennium Underground Railway, the third-oldest metro line in the world. Budapest is famous for its 80 geothermal springs, the world’s largest thermal cave system, the second largest synagogue and the third largest Parliament building.

Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic, which used to be joined with Slovakia until the two separated into distinct sovereign states in 1993. The Old Town square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its ancient buildings and magnificent churches, is one of the most beautiful historical sights in Europe. The square dates back to the 12th century and started life as the central marketplace in Prague. Today it is full of houses and churches built in centuries past in different architectural styles - Romanesque, Baroque, and Gothic creations all tell a different story. The most notable sights: Old Town Hall Tower and the Astronomical Clock, Tyn Church and St. Nickolas Church. We will also photograph the Jan Hus statue. For a stunning view over the square, we will climb the Old Town Hall Tower.

This adventure is designed not only to guide you to the most photogenic locations carefully planned for the best light, but to aid you in mentally visualizing a scene before capturing the decisive moment. Our aim is to raise your awareness and spark your creativity so that you not only go home with images to be proud of, but use your new found skills to improve and expand your photographic technique in general. Apart from the technical aspect of learning your camera settings and capabilities, you will learn how to turn an ordinary image into an extraordinary image by using your own creativity.

In addition, you will become knowledgeable on how to survey the landscape, utilize and approach your environment, photograph people indigenous to the region and the cultural considerations and challenges of photographing in a foreign country. Our time together will include individual and group discussions, inspiring ideas and great fun. We cannot think of a better location to express your creativity than the breathtaking cities of Budapest, Vienna and Prague, as well as the surrounding countryside.

BUDAPEST & PRAGUE 7 DAYS

Day 1 |  Budapest - St. Syephen’s Basilica - Parliament - Chain Bridge

We meet in Budapest, the capital and largest city in Hungary.

We begin our day discussing PWA’s “10 Guiding Principles of Photography” as well as our “The Art of Seeing” photographic technique. During a group lunch we will have informal discussions on what our guests are trying to achieve with their photography. After lunch our photo adventure starts throughout the city center. We will explore St. Syephen’s Basilica, Parliament, Danube Promenade and the Chain Bridge. In the evening we will celebrate our guests’ arrival with a “Welcome Dinner” at one of our favorite Hungarian restaurants. (D)

Day 2 |  Budapest - Buda Castle - Citadel - Gellert Hill

After breakfast we travel to the Buda Castle district, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will stroll through the cobble-stoned streets and alleys of Castle Hill. Buda Castle has also been known as the Royal Palace and The Royal Castle. At noon there is a changing of the guards’ ceremony, which will give us added opportunities for great images from this picturesque area. Near the presidential residence is the Fisherman’s Bastion, with a viewing terrace over the Danube Promenade, Margaret Island and Gellert Hill. After lunch we are off to the Citadel, a fortress that was built by the Hapsburgs in the middle of the 19th century, to keep the city under surveillance. From Gellert Hill we’ll get a chance to take some wonderful evening and sunset photos of Budapest. (B)

Day 3 |  Budapest - Varosliget - Vajdahunyad Castle

We arise early for a sunrise shoot of this beautiful city. After breakfast we will visit Varosliget, one of the most beautiful city parks in Budapest. The famous Vajdahunyad Castle, the Szechenyi Spas, the zoo and the Vidampark (an amusement park). Lunch at the Gundel restaurant. After lunch we will visit Heroes’ Square and then walk down Andrassy Boulevard where we will photograph the most architecturally interesting buildings such as the House of Terror and the Hungarian State Opera House. In the evening we will enjoy a wonderful dinner celebrating our last evening on Budapest. (B)

Day 4 |  Budapest - Bratislava Castle (Slovakia) - Prague

We do an early morning check-out of our hotel in Budapest and head to Prague. On our way to Prague we will stop in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. The city was the capital of the Kingdom of Hungary, a part of the larger Hapsburg Monarchy Territories. We will take a walk through Bratislava Old Town down the narrow lanes, and then we will explore the burghers’ houses and nobles’ palaces. An elevator takes us up the UFO open-air observation deck. This structure was declared Slovakia’s building of the century. It will give us a 360-degree view as far as 100 kilometers. We will also stop at the Bratislava Castle with its magnificent views of the Danube as well as great views of the city from its very peak! In Prague we will check-in to our hotel, explore the city and enjoy dinner. (B)

Day 5 |  Prague - Wenceslas Square - Vitava River Cruise

Since 1992, the extensive historic centre of Prague has been included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic, which used to be joined with Slovakia until the two separated into distinct sovereign states in 1993. The Old Town square, with its ancient buildings and magnificent churches, is one of the most beautiful historical sights in Europe. For a stunning view over the square, we will climb the Old Town Hall Tower.

In the afternoon we will walk down famous Wenceslas Square, which lies at the heart of the New Town. “New Town” was laid out in 348 by Charles lV. We can also photograph the National Museum and the Prague State Opera if it interests you. In the evening we will enjoy a river cruise down the Vitava River. (B)

Day 6 |  Prague - Prague Castle - St. Vitus - Charles Bridge

After breakfast we’ll visit Prague Castle, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the Prague Castle is the largest coherent castle complex in the world. The ceremonial changing of the guard, which includes much fanfare, as well as a flag ceremony, will give us great opportunities to capture some lovely photos. We will stop at St. Vitus Cathedral, which is located at the Prague Castle. It is the largest and most important church in Prague. The cathedral is the burial place of former Czech kings and a home to the Czech crown jewels. There are magnificent views of the whole city from this vantage point. On our way back to Old Town we will walk across and again photograph Charles Bridge and immerse ourselves in the atmosphere by watching street artists sketching and listening to musicians playing. Sunset shoot of Charles Bridge. Our “Farewell Dinner” will be at one of Prague’s most well-known breweries. (B) (D)

Day 7 |  Prague

On Tuesday after breakfast, we have our final group discussion, review our past weeks photos, trade contact information and say goodbye at check-out. We urge you to extend your stay in Prague or elsewhere in Europe where you can practice all the photography skills you learned on our photo adventure. (B)

May all who come as guests... leave as friends®
